A user on X posted a video of Williams in the shotgun formation against his own defense in practice.
The USC product took the snap and looked left before looking at his tight end Cole Kmet in the middle of the field.
Williams threw the football intended for Kmet but it was behind and overthrown, landing in the hands of safety Jaquan Brisker.
The crowd yelled in astonishment at the turnover as Brisker was able to return the ball for about five yards before being tackled.
The clip of the interception has gotten over 650,000 views on X, and fans shared their concerned reactions to Williams.
“This has been the pattern of Caleb thus far… inconsistency,” one wrote.
“Wow he really just floated that up there, so slow coming off his hands as well,” a second commented.
“This is worrying,” a third added.
However, plenty of fans pointed out the fact that Williams threw two touchdowns to fellow rookie wideout Rome Odunze on the same day of practice.
Williams and the Bears will be playing the Houston Texans in the Hall of Fame game on Thursday in Canton, Ohio.
It will be the first preseason game of the NFL season.
However, it was revealed that Williams and the Bears starters will not play in the exhibition contest, per Chicago head coach Matt Eberflus.
Second-year signal-caller Tyson Bagent will get the start instead.
Eberflu wouldn’t reveal if Williams will start against the Buffalo Bills in the Bears’ second preseason game on August 10.
