Star Wars: The Acolyte premiered earlier this year to widespread criticism, largely due to its perceived “woke” themes. As episodes aired, it became clear that the show’s high production costs were not matched by its quality, which fell short in story, acting, writing, and pacing.
The show’s only bright spots were its villain and a few lightsaber action scenes. A few weeks ago, I discussed the slim chances of The Acolyte getting a second season. While the negative online reception played a significant role, the high production costs coupled with poor viewership figures sealed its fate.
The Acolyte saw a steady decline in viewership each week, despite dubious claims that it was the second-most popular Star Wars show ever. The media attempted to generate buzz, but it failed to capture the fans’ interest.
While the final episode offered intriguing possibilities for a second season with cameos from Yoda and Darth Plagueis, the damage had already been done.
Now, fans are reacting to the show’s cancellation, with responses varying widely from disappointment to outright joy.
The Acolyte being cancelled is just another example of toxic internet hate. The show never got a chance to breathe and half the people hating on it never even watched an episode.
It’s not my favorite piece of Star Wars content but it certainly didn’t deserved to be axed. pic.twitter.com/xAb8BTRT0D

TBH I knew it was over when only books were announced at Celebration. We finally get a dark side story (and OMG Manny Jacinto doing his best work) and this is how it ends. Fuck the toxic haters. They’re so annoying that they convinced casual viewers The Acolyte wasn’t worth it.

But it was so stunning and brave and challenged the status quo by being unburdened by what has been!

I re watched The Force Awakens today. Although not the greatest, it was promising. How did Disney f*ck it up so bad? It’s unbelieveable

They should make Leslie Headland pay back all the money she made from this abomination

Thank goodness, audiences shouldn’t have to suffer through trash at that level

Good. It was bigoted and racist trash.
