A bizarre Black Myth: Wukong mod has Wukong trading his staff for an AK-47, turning the game into a fantasy Call of Duty.
Courtesy of the PC Master Race, Black Myth: Wukong has been a modding paradise since its release—with players creating all sorts of wild and wacky additions to the game. From turning The Destined One into a Jedi Knight to pitting him against Goku in a Dragon Ball-style battle, there’s no shortage of creativity in the game’s modding community.

But the latest mod to take the internet by storm might just be the most absurd one yet.
Journey Too Far to the West
But instead of wielding his trusty staff, our favorite monkey protagonist has apparently decided to trade up for something a bit more… contemporary:
That’s right, folks. In this mod, The Destined One has gotten his hands on an AK-47, and he’s not afraid to use it! As one commenter put it:
The video shows the modder mowing down Chapter 1’s enemies and bosses with unbelievable ease—turning the game’s carefully designed combat encounters into little more than target practice. It’s a sight that’s equal parts hilarious and horrifying, like watching a beloved childhood fairy tale get the Michael Bay treatment.

Of course, this isn’t the first time modders have put their own spin on Black Myth: Wukong. In the past few weeks, we’ve seen everything from a mod that turns The Destined One into a Super Saiyan to one that (here we go again) brings CJ into the game. But there’s something about the sheer absurdity of seeing our silent monkey wielding an assault rifle that just hits different.
Ironically, despite the mod’s “American Dream” theme, the watermark on the video suggests that this is the work of the Chinese modding community rather than their American counterparts. After all, who else would think to combine Journey to the West with a Chinese-manufactured Russian assault rifle?
Of course, as impressive as this newfound firepower may be, some players have pointed out that it might not be quite as effective against certain bosses. As one commenter noted:
Erlang Shen, the game’s most notoriously difficult boss, is known for his ability to deflect attacks with ease. Something tells us that even an AK-47 might not be enough to take him down.
Still, there’s no denying the sheer entertainment value of seeing The Destined One go full Call of Duty on his unsuspecting foes. It’s a reminder of the endless creativity and humor of the gaming community, and the way that mods can breathe new life into even the most unlikely of games—even if you didn’t ask for it.
