Exploring Reba McEntire’s Relationship Journey: From Two Divorces to Romance with a Co-Star

Singer Reba McEntire, who’s been nominated for a CMT Award, has had quite the love life and recently started a relationship with her Young Sheldon co-star Rex Linn

Queen of country music Reba McEntire seems to have finally found her Prince Charming in her co-star Rex Linn.

The couple have known each for more than 30 years but didn’t start dating until June 2020 when they reconnected following the death of her mom, Jacqueline McEntire. Before dating Rex, Reba had a very high-profile love life.

She was married to Charlie Battles from 1976 to 1987 before moving on with her manager Narvel Blackstock. Here, we’ve taken a look back at Reba’s relationship history.

Reba McEntire’s first marriage was to steer wrestling champion and rancher Charlie Battles. When the pair tied the knot in 1976, she was 21 while he was 31.

In that same year, Reba’s career hit off as her single I Don’t Want to Be a One Night Stand soared to number 88 on the Billboard country charts. A year later, she released her hit album Reba McEntire and in 1982, her single Can’t Even Get the Blues No More reached number one.

However, Charlie wasn’t happy with his wife’s overnight success and asked her to slow down. She refused and divorced Charlie in 1987. The singer also moved from their ranch in Oklahoma to Nashville to further her career.

“I guess I chose my career over my marriage,” Reba explained. Reflecting on her relationship with Charlie, Reba told CNN: “I loved Charlie with all my heart, I wanted to marry him. We had a lot of fun. We rodeoed together, we ranched together.”

In 1989, Reba married her manager Narvel Blackstock. The private ceremony took place at Lake Tahoe on a boat and the pair quickly became a power couple. Together they formed Starstruck Entertainment and took over all aspects of Reba’s career.

Reba gained three step-children from her marriage to Narvel – Chassidy, Shawna, and Brandon – and gave birth to a son, Shelby Blackstock. Sadly, Reba and Narvel’s relationship wasn’t to be and they announced their split in 2015 after 26 years of marriage.

Their divorce was finalized on October 28, 2015. Despite her relationship with Narvel coming to an end, Reba has remained close to her step-children and said she considers their kids to be her grandchildren.

In 2017, Reba started dating photographer Anthony Lasuzzo after meeting through country musician Kix Brooks. Reba gushed over her boyfriend and in April 2019, she said they were “totally in love”.

Speaking to People Magazine, she said: “I wouldn’t put up with somebody for two years if I wasn’t in love with ’em!” Six months later, the pair decided to call time on their romance.

Speaking about the split, Reba told Us Weekly they wouldn’t be spending the holidays together: “Skeeter and I broke up in May, so, unfortunately, we will not be spending that time together. We still talk and we’re friends, but just decided to go our separate ways.”

Reba McEntire first met Rex Linn while they were both working on the Kenny Rogers movie The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Reba spoke about how they reconnected: “We kept in contact over the years, we both know the same people.

“So it was just like good friends getting back together and having dinner. Then we started texting and talking on the telephone and getting to know each other better during the quarantine.”

The couple went official in 2020, with Reba describing her boyfriend as “very interesting, very funny, very smart,” during an episode of her podcast Living & Learning. She added: “It’s good to have a person to talk to, laugh with, get into subjects about what’s going on.

“Discussions about our past, our family, funny stories, him being an actor, me being an actress. And he’s very into my music. I’m very into his career.”

Reba and Rex made their red carpet debut at the Country Music Awards in November 2020. The couple have a very loving romance and Rex even has an adorable nickname for his girlfriend – Tater Tot.
