Chance the Rapper first joined NBC’s The Voice as a coach during Season 23. He left after just one season to focus on other career endeavors, but did not stay away for long and is now back for Season 25, which kicked off on Feb. 26, 2024. The coaching panel also features returning coaches John Legend and Reba McEntire, as well as newcomers Dan + Shay — the show’s first-ever coaching duo. Chance has a stacked team this year and good odds of winning the season, having nabbed four out of the eight artists who earned four-chair turns during Blind Auditions.

While Chance’s team is doing well, his personal life off-screen has been facing some struggles. On April 3, 2024, he revealed that he and his wife of five years, Kirsten Corley, are divorcing. Read on to learn why.

In a joint statement shared on their Instagram Stories, Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley revealed that they have decided to amicably divorce.

“After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways,” the statement read. “We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together.” It continued: “God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together. We kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate this transition. Thank you.”

The couple first met when they were children, but did not reconnect until almost a decade later in 2013. They went on to get married in 2019 and welcome two daughters: Kensli, 7, and Marli, 4.

Although Chance kept his relationship with the influencer and model very private, he did open up about their life together on the rare occasion. “I’ve been waking up daily with a newfound gratitude and being very grateful that I’m married right now,” he told People in April 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. “The fact that me, my daughters and my wife all live in one house together is a huge, huge blessing, so I’ve just been taking that in.”

News of the couple’s split comes almost one year after Chance was seen dancing with another woman at his 30th birthday celebration in Jamaica. Shortly after the footage surfaced, Kirsten shared a cryptic post on Instagram, sparking rumors that the pair had split. Quoting a passage from Maya Angelou’s essay “Home,” she wrote: “Most people don’t grow up. It’s too damn difficult. What happens is most people get older. That’s the truth of it.” Despite the speculation, Chance’s rep told Page Six that he and Kirsten were “all good.”

“Everyone has their moments, but they’re all good,” the rep said at the time.

Chance and Kirsten’s divorce announcement also comes a few days before Season 25’s Knockout Rounds kick off on Monday, April 8. Since the season was tapped well in advance, it’s possible that Chance and his wife had already separated prior to filming.
