Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been destroyed with a pickaxe – the second time it has been smashed up.

Austin Mikel Clay, 24, turned himself in after the vandalism at around 3.30am (11.30am UK time) on Wednesday, said Los Angeles police.

Local media quoted witnesses as saying the man pulled the axe out of a guitar case before hammering away.

The star is one of more than 2,600 set into the pavements on Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Avenue.

Some people in the busy tourist area took the opportunity to get a photo next to the damaged star.

The president received the famous accolade in 2007 for his work on the US version of reality show The Apprentice.

The star was also vandalised by a man dressed as a construction worker and armed with a sledgehammer days before Mr Trump’s election win in 2016.

The culprit, James Otis, was sentenced to three years’ probation and agreed to pay $4,400 (£3,761) for the damage.

It is also frequently the site of protests about the president and his policies.
