The second season of ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’ recently started airing. McBride who portrayed Carol in the original show returned to the fold as a series regular, and naturally, fans expected that a reunion was in the cards.

The season’s 4th episode – titled ‘Le Paradis Pour Toi’ delivers exactly that, but it’s more bitter than sweet as one tragic death also took place.

The 4th episode begins with Carol pretending to be dead and escaping on an ATV, dragging Codron behind her so the walkers can eat him. Once free, Codron fights to protect Laurent.

Isabelle won’t tell Losang where Laurent is, so he stabs her. After Carol saves Isabelle from a walker, Isabelle helps Carol find Daryl. Daryl convinces a scared young man to let him go, and finally, Daryl and Carol are back together. But here’s where the “bitter” part comes in.

Isabelle dies in Daryl’s arms and makes him promise to take care of Laurent. They escape as the Nest is attacked by Genet. Genet questions Losang, who won’t help her; she believes that finding Laurent will bring her God’s favor.

Daryl and Carol track Laurent and Fallou and meet an older couple, Theo and Didi, who give them a car. While Daryl fixes another car, Didi, who thinks Carol is Isabelle, comforts her about her losses and tells her that Laurent said Daryl loves Isabelle.

Theo betrays Daryl and Carol to Genet, leading to a fight where both Didi and Genet’s people are killed. Carol shoots Genet with her own weapon, causing her to die in a terrible way.

With Genet gone, Sabine and Pouvoir turn to Losang, who talks about “forgiveness” and brings the two groups together to search for Laurent, believing he will lead them to a better place.

The tragic death came just a week after Isabelle’s and Daryl’s relationship became much more straightforward with Isabelle finally admitting to him that she loves him. We’ve been speculating that if Isabelle manages to survive the events of season 2 and join the commonwealth, Daryl might be forced to change his “Lone Wolf” way of life, but it seems that won’t come to pass now.
