If all had gone to plan with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the game would be in our hands by now.

That being said, it sounds as if the title’s delay is for the best.

Ubisoft previously revealed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will now target a 14 February 2025 launch, explaining that developers needed additional time to refine and polish the game.

It’s what’s needed, especially given Ubisoft’s track record this year.

The company hasn’t exactly had a bad year by any means, but it’s certainly been a mixed one.

Skull and Bones finally launched, underwhelming us all as we perhaps expected.

Then, Star Wars Outlaws landed and while a Metacritic score of 75 is nothing to turn your nose up at, it’s perhaps not as high as developers were hoping to achieve.

It’s with all of this in mind that Assassin’s Creed Shadows could do with being a smash-hit.

That does mean that fans of the franchise have been left to their own devices while they await that delayed release.

Of course, Ubisoft dropped a new-gen patch of Syndicate to keep us busy, but so too have some fans taken to discussing a potential sequel to Assassin’s Creed Origins.

Assassin’s Creed Origins is one of the greatest entries in the franchise, if you ask me.

Bayek is a fantastic character and I personally loved the scale of the game, but how would a sequel fare?

Well, fans are divided.

“I loved Bayek too, a storyline played on a map so perfectly sized so as to finish the arc but leave you wanting more. I doubt we’ll see more of our wandering hero since his story has been told; he’s had his DLC and they’re earning nothing extra from it now,” wrote one Reddit user.

“There is basically zero chance we’ll ever get another game with him as any sequel to Origins will almost assuredly feature Aya instead of him. Though since Origins was meant to be her game and that didn’t happen, maybe I’m being overly pessimistic,” added sal880612m, making a valid point.

Valen_1138 was slightly more optimistic, writing, “Only way I can see a sequel happening is if they pick up where Origins left off with Amunet establishing a Hidden Ones bureau in Rome.”

I’m of the opinion that it could happen, but given Ubisoft’s track record in recent years of opting for original stories over sequels, I certainly can’t see it being a possibility any time soon.
