Madelyn Cline has won over Netflix viewers with her portrayal of Sarah Cameron in the hit series Outer Banks – but she’s been through some tough times in her personal life.

For four years, Netflix has enthralled audiences with a gripping coming-of-age journey, and now it’s back on our screens for Season 4 with Outer Banks.

The series follows a band of teenagers known as the Pogues, led by John B in their quest to uncover the mystery behind his father’s disappearance. In the process, they stumble upon a treasure connected to John B’s father, setting off an exciting four-season adventure.

Born and raised in South Carolina to estate agent Pam and engineer Mark, Madelyn embarked on her career as a child model. Signed to local modelling agency Millie Lewis Models and Talent, she featured in various TV and magazine advertisements.

She began appearing in short films as a teenager before making her debut in feature-length films with the 2016 comedy, Savannah Sunrise.

Madelyn has shared her challenges with an eating disorder during her teen years. Talking to Women’s Health magazine in 2020, she revealed: “When I was younger I did struggle with eating disorders, specifically when I was a teenager. I think I was around 16 when I started working out a lot.”

Elaborating further, Madelyn divulged: “I would wake up every morning at 5am and I would work out for 30 minutes. It was super rigorous cardio every day.” Detailing the extent of her food restriction, she admitted cutting her breakfast down to just six almonds.

Before her breakout role on Outer Banks, Madelyn took on several smaller parts. She had a role in the 2018 biopic Boy Erased, where she worked alongside Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe.

TV fans might recognise her from CW’s The Originals, HBO’s Vice Principals, and a stint in Season 2 of Stranger Things.

Following her rise to fame in Outer Banks, Madelyn joined the ensemble cast of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Additionally, she’s set to feature in the upcoming fourth film of the I Know What You Did Last Summer series.
