The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has finally arrived, bringing six groundbreaking features designed to rival Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Soulslike games.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remaster

It’s a known fact that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is one of the best RPGs to ever hit the shelves. Right upon its arrival in 2006, it smashed records left and right, setting new highs for Todd Howard and his team. However, Oblivion was unfortunately stuck on old hardware. Gamers had been calling for a remaster for years, but Bethesda wasn’t keen on the idea.

However, that has changed now. That’s right, after months of speculation and leaks, the Oblivion remaster is finally out for players to enjoy. Developer Virtuos Studios has given the Bethesda classic a fresh coat of paint and modern-day upgrades that have completely elevated the RPG.

One might believe that it’s just an average remaster with enhanced graphics. However, that’s not the case, as it’s loaded with six features that allow it to be a true contender against the Souslike games by FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Today’s reveal is more than just a remaster; it’s a full-fledged remake once you factor in all the changes made to the classic Bethesda title. In the gameplay video, Bethesda showcased all the enhanced visuals and features of the beloved RPG’s remaster, which has now been developed by Virtuos Studios.

Right from leveling systems to character creation, everything in the Oblivion remaster has been brought to modern standards. However, what really stands out are the six features which the development team has worked hard to nail in with this remaster –

Reimagined HUD
Revamped blocking
Sneak icon highlights
Stamina reworked
Archery overhaul
Enemies reacting to attacks

The remaster brings changes to the UI and the overall leveling system of the game to make it a modern-day RPG. Gone are the cluttered screens and distracting elements that reduced the immersion in the RPG. Taking inspiration from Souslike titles, blocking is now more dynamic, addressing the frustrating system of the original Oblivion game.

The remaster’s overhaul of sneak mechanics includes highlighted icons and completely revamped archery for both first- and third-person perspectives. Stamina has also been tweaked, making its depletion much harder, and the new AI system will make enemies react more dynamically to player attacks.

It’s quite clear that with these new features, the Oblivion remaster can provide an experience similar to Soulslike games. Players can now expect a game that retains its core but is a more punishing and rewarding experience that demands skills and patience.

Oblivion remaster also brings new voice lines

It’s not just the graphics upgrades and overhaul of core gameplay features with the Oblivion remaster; Virtuos has even added more voice lines to the title.

During the reveal, the developers revealed that fresh voice lines have been recorded for the remaster. However, don’t fear if you are someone who loves the original voice lines, as they’re still there in the game.

During the official presentation, it was revealed that Bethesda couldn’t give every race in the RPG its own voice lines due to disc storage limitations. This is why a number of characters in the game have the same voice lines and even voice actors.

With the remaster, Virtuos has made sure that every race found in the game has its very own voice lines. This will go a long way towards amplifying the immersion and bringing variety into the game.
