The Summer I Turned Prettyâs Jeremiah Throws a Tantrum as Belly Jets Off to Paris in Episode 9
We havenât seen a break-up meltdown this bad since Carrieâs Mexicoma in Sex and the City.
After Prime Video dropped an end-of-season trailer ahead of The Summer I Turned Pretty Episode 9, we hoped to see Belly enjoying the glitz and glamour of French culture. Instead, we got stuck watching Jeremiah be a terror to all who know and love him. (Are we surprised?)
At the top of the hour, we find Jere at a bar with his pals, drinking away his sorrows as Redbird eggs him on to hook up with⌠well, pretty much anyone. But all Jere can talk about is how Belly has probably run away with Conrad, which Taylor and Steven assure him is not the case.
âBut if sheâs not with Conrad, where is she?â he asks, as if Belly couldnât possibly make a choice to be on her own.
Then, Conrad shows up to support his brother â because, despite all thatâs happened, Conrad still loves the guy â but Taylor and Steven catch him outside the bar before he can make his presence known. Itâs not a good time, they warn.
When Jeremiah wakes up the next morning, his tirade really starts to heat up. First, he lambasts Laurel, who comes to his place hoping to help her almost-son-in-law through his heartbreak. He snaps at her like a Disney villain, accusing her of faking empathy since she never wanted him to marry her âprecious daughterâ anyway. (Precious daughter?! Wasnât he in love with Belly, like, a day ago?) âYouâre not my mom, Laur,â he adds.
Shortly thereafter, Taylor comes by to generously offer her friend a stash of snacks and a red Gatorade, which apparently is best for curing a hangover. Jere accepts the goodies without thanks. (âThank God!â he says from bed, rolling his eyes at Taylorâs act of kindness as if he is King of Cousins.)
When he finally seems to express a glimmer of appreciation for all that Taylor is doing for him, he finds out the red Gatorade is an olive branch from Conrad, and all progress is lost. He waves the drink away and gets back to his woe-is-me charade. All the while, Belly still hasnât reached out. (Which begs the question: Couldnât Jer just text Belly?)

Meanwhile, Belly is on her own over in Paris, and she has bigger things to worry about than her hometown heartbreak â a stolen backpack. Luckily, she manages to quickly track down her sack of belongings at an edgy Parisian rave thanks to an Apple AirTag. There, she not only reclaims her property, but she also meets a group of locals who invite her for a drink. She shares her entire romantic saga with her new European pals, and they all find some humor in it, which seems to make Belly wonder whether all the drama between these two guys in Cousins is really worth it. She finally calls Jeremiah, but tells him sheâs staying in Paris to figure out who she is without him or Conrad in the mix.
But of course, the episode ends with one final blowup from our hot-headed Jere. After he discovers Conradâs wedding gift â a painting from their late mother â he tells his brother Belly has gone to Paris. âShe didnât choose me, but she didnât pick you either,â he adds. âSo why donât you get the fâk out, go back to California and never come back?â Yikes!
