Kyle Busch’s Death Was ‘Totally Preventable’ Says Prominent Sports Doctor: ‘Hindsight is 2020’
Dr. Jesse Morse took to X on Saturday, May 23, where he discussed Busch’s sudden and shocking death at age 41. The Associated Press reported earlier that day that the NASCAR driver died after severe pneumonia progressed into sepsis, which caused overwhelming complications.
Dr. Morse opened his message by stating that he’d speculated this was the exact cause of death prior to the announcement.
“This was a totally preventable situation. Hindsight is 2020, but ideally when he was calling for help and a ‘shot’ from his doctor two weeks ago,” he said, referencing Busch asking his team for a shot after his race at Watkins Glen International on May 10.

“The proper protocol would’ve been to have him admitted to the hospital and get IV antibiotics with proper monitoring,” Morse continued. “Based on what we have heard, this was not the case, and his medical team allowed him to maintain his strenuous activities despite this ongoing infection that eventually evolved into pneumonia.”
Despite seemingly feeling symptoms earlier in the month, Busch continued his rigorous activities as a professional NASCAR driver, even going on to win a race the following week, which Morse called “nothing short of extraordinary.”
“It shows you how good of shape he was in and also the power of the mind,” he added. “Unfortunately, his powerful mind ended up being a double-edged sword, preventing him from getting the proper care he deserved, which unfortunately led to his shocking passing.”
Busch reportedly became unresponsive while testing in the Chevrolet racing simulator in Concord, North Carolina, on Wednesday and was transported to the hospital, where he later died, according to the Associated Press.
