Her final message broke everyone’s heart…
After her son was killed in the horrific crocodile attack, grieving mother Claudia Mauricio shared an emotional tribute filled with unimaginable grief.
She ended her message by expressing one deeply personal wish—that one day she would be reunited with her son in heaven.
As new photos reveal the massive 12-foot crocodile believed to be involved in the attack, it is the mother’s heartbreaking farewell—not the predator itself—that has left so many people emotiona
A vibrant vacation turned into an absolute nightmare in the popular resort town of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, when a 28-year-old tourist was dragged into the water and killed by a massive crocodile. The victim, identified by his grieving family as Irving Mauricio of Mexico City, was swimming at Marina Vallarta beach near the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa when the apex predator struck at approximately 6:30 PM on Friday.

According to eyewitness accounts and local authorities, Mauricio was near a beachside bar opposite the hotel when the crocodile targeted him, dragging him beneath the surface into the coastal waters. The sudden, violent encounter sparked immediate panic on the shore, prompting a frantic but dangerous rescue attempt by fellow tourists.
HEROIC RESCUE ATTEMPT AND NIGHT-LONG DRAGNET

Among those who rushed to help was a vacationing family from San Clemente, California. Tourist Jamie Yetter, alongside her fiancé Chris Bury and their teenage daughter, were relaxing by the hotel pool when desperate screams pierced the evening air from the beach.
“We thought we saw someone caught in a rip current, so Chris rushed into the water, and I ran right behind him,” Yetter told NBC Los Angeles, recalling the chaotic moments before the true nature of the emergency became clear.
Despite the brave intervention of onlookers, the predator vanished into the deep waters with the young man. Local emergency management immediately mobilized an exhaustive overnight search-and-recovery operation. Civil Protection personnel, marine divisions, and first responders scoured the area by land, sea, and air through the dark hours.
The agonizing search concluded around 7:00 AM on Saturday morning, roughly 12 hours after the initial attack. Mauricio’s mutilated body was discovered in a local waterway near Bocanegra beach, approximately 500 meters offshore and 2.5 kilometers south of the resort where the incident originated. Officials noted it remains unclear exactly how and why Mauricio initially entered the water in the high-risk area.
“YOU HAVE BROKEN MY HEART”: A MOTHER’s AGONIZING TRIBUTE

Following the formal recovery of his remains, Mauricio’s grief-stricken mother, Claudia Mauricio, took to social media to share a deeply moving tribute to her late son, alongside photos honoring his memory. Her emotional words painted a picture of profound devastation as she grieved with Irving’s father, Ross, and his younger brother, Alexis.
“My beloved son, you have broken my heart. Please give me the strength to keep living,” the heartbroken mother wrote online. “Forgive me for not taking as good care of you as I wanted to. Forgive me, my son. If I ever failed as a mother, I ask for your forgiveness with all my heart. I will never stop loving you. If you loved me that much, I want you to know I love you a thousand times more, my little Irving Mauricio.”
She concluded her emotional letter with a poignant wish to be reunited with her son in the afterlife, praying that when her time comes to leave this world, he will be there to welcome her with the bright smile he always gave her.
CAPTURE OF THE 12-FOOT MONSTER AND URGENT WARNINGS
As part of the emergency response and containment protocols, wildlife officials and emergency teams successfully captured a massive crocodile measuring between 11.8 and 12 feet (3.6 to 3.7 meters) in the immediate vicinity of the attack.
Dramatic images circulated online capturing the high-stakes moment the reptile was restrained. The photos show a team of five men struggling to subdue the giant animal on a grassy lawn near the hotel, with one handler sitting squarely on the reptile’s back while holding its massive jaws shut. Grainy night footage also surfaced, showing the giant crocodile gaping its jaws near the Marriott resort shortly after the fatal encounter. The animal has been seized by environmental authorities, who are conducting forensic examinations to confirm its direct involvement in the fatal mauling.

Misael López Muro, Director of Civil Protection and Firefighters in Puerto Vallarta, confirmed to local reporters that an active investigation is underway and that authorities are in close communication with the grieving family. He used the tragedy to issue a stern reminder to international tourists and locals alike regarding the persistent danger of local wildlife.
Crocodile encounters and attacks routinely spike during the summer rainy season in the state of Jalisco. During these months, the reptiles become significantly more active, migrating through local estuaries, rivers, and coastal margins of heavily populated tourist destinations like Puerto Vallarta. Muro emphasized that visitors must strictly adhere to posted warning signs, maintain situational awareness, and completely avoid entering the water in unmonitored areas or where dangerous reptiles have been spotted.
