The team of The Last of Us is expanding with season 2 as it welcomes more characters from the video game into the show including Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby and Isabela Merced’s Dina. Talking about her time on the show, Isabela Merced revealed that she is extremely excited for fans to see the romance between her character, Dina, and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie.

In the video game, Ellie and Dina share a close and intimate relationship which is an integral part of the storyline of The Last of Us Part II. Now, this relationship is all set to make its way to live-action and we couldn’t be more excited. As it turns out, neither can Isabela Merced who can’t wait for the fans to see the romance bubbling between Dina and Ellie (Bella Ramsey).
The Alien: Romulus actress recently paid a visit to Josh Horowitz over at his Happy Sad Confused podcast. There, she talked about everything from Superman to Madame Web and eventually came to The Last of Us.
When Horowitz asked his guest if there was something in particular that she shot as Dina that she was looking forward for the fans to see, Merced replied blushing,
I mean, I think it’s the romance for me. I think it’s the romance between the two of us. Ugh. It brings tears to my eyes. I have a whole playlist for Dina & Ellie. It’s beautiful. There’s this one song that we would play on set, that I would play on set, and Bella really loved, by Adrianne Lenker, that really, I feel like set the tone for us. Yeah, it’s beautiful. I think they did a really good job.
While in the video game, Ellie and Dina’s relationship ends on a bittersweet and ambiguous note, we cannot wait to see where Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin will take the two characters in their show.
Isabela Merced Couldn’t be prouder of Bella Ramsey

The team of season 2 is just about to wrap things up as Merced has revealed that they are on the “tail end” of filming. During her time on the show, the Superman actress learned a valuable lesson: people can look up to and admire those younger than themselves.
In the podcast, Merced credited Ramsey for helping her come to this conclusion through their hard work in the show. She stated that she was really proud of her co-star and hoped that Ramsey “gets their flowers.”
In her own words,
I’m really proud of Bella. I think, if I were to close this out as one of the last interviews I did before we wrapped, I’d say that I really hope Bella gets their flowers. They’re working really, really hard, physically and emotionally. One thing I’ve learned throughout this is, ‘Wow, you can really admire people who are younger than you.’ You can really look up to them.
She isn’t wrong. Ramsey took our breaths away the moment they stepped into the screen as Ellie. Considered one of the best casting choices for a video game adaptation, it didn’t take long for Ramsey to get themselves a huge fan following which they absolutely deserve!
Honestly, we cannot wait to see how things unfold for Ramsey and Merced in season 2.
The Last of Us season 2 will be released in 2025. Meanwhile, stream season one on Max.
