Stories of Keanu Reeves and his generosity are endless. The guy gets his motorcycle crashed into and doesn’t even react. He’ll even walk in the middle of an airport and greet fans without security, he truly is Hollywood’s hero.
When it comes to roles, we have a hard time imagining Keanu as the villain. Though in truth, he has tackled the role in the past. We’ll explore this further, along with taking a look at a different villain role has interest in.
Keanu Reeves’ Love For Acting Took Shape In His Early-Teens
It wasn’t a lifelong dream for Keanu, however, according to his mother, the future Matrix star started to get serious about acting during his early teens.
“Acting. My mom says I declared I wanted to be an actor when I was 15 and why would that person ask or say that.”
Reeves recalls the joy of acting in school plays and how he loved to tell stories, especially at a younger age. “I recall when acting in school or doing Shakespeare – that sense of being free was play. It was fun. Make believe, but reality, connection, a group, collaboration… it’s shared. You commune, you tell a story. I love stories. Stories help us contextualize the world. I love what happens after someone says action.”
It all worked out for Keanu Reeves, who ended up reaching the top of the Hollywood mountain, even despite certain criticisms during the early portion of his career.
Most fans always think about the actor in roles as the hero, however, he has tinkered with the opposite end of the spectrum on a few occasions.
Keanu Reeves Has Played A Few Villains Before
During his breakout in Speed, Keanu Reeves was the ultimate hero character and that portrayal would follow throughout his career. However, he did have some villainous roles which include The Gift and Man of Tai Chi.
Perhaps the most evident form of a villain for Keanu came in the 2000s flick, The Watcher. The timing was very odd, given he was coming off his Matrix success. His character description doesn’t seem like something he’ll be revisiting. “A generic crime thriller with Reeves playing a serial killer caught up in a psychological game with an FBI agent played by James Spader. The film was poorly reviewed, made just $29 million, and didn’t seem in sync with Reeves’s career,” Mental Floss states.
There is a certain reason as to why Reeves agreed to the project and a lot of it has to do with a friend… Keanu stated that his signature was forged by a buddy and therefore, he had no other choice but to work the film.
“I never found the script interesting, but a friend of mine forged my signature on the agreement,” Reeves said. “I couldn’t prove he did and I didn’t want to get sued, so I had no other choice but to do the film.”
Despite the tough experience and negative reaction, Keanu would be opening to reprising the villain role, despite his good guy status.
The role would come in a very iconic franchise.
Keanu Reeves Would Be Open To Playing A James Bond Villain
During a discussion with Carrie-Anne Moss alongside PopBuzz, the actor was asked about working as a James Bond villain. Without hesitation, Keanu stated that he’d be interested in such a role.
“Oh wow, play a Bond villain? That would be fun. Sure, I would play a Bond villain…what kind of villain? A villainy villain.”
“Yes, sign me up to play Bond villain.”
Moss took things a step further, linking Keanu’s past villain role in Man of Tai Chi as a character he could base it off. “I’ll play his side kick. I’ll be behind him making sure it all…I’ll be his assistant.”
Who really knows if this would ever take shape but it is interesting to see that at the very least, Reeves put the wheels in motion.
