Sony’s live-service hero shooter announced it was shutting down on September 3, only 11 days following its uneventful release. On that occasion, Firewalk Studios said that everyone who purchased Concord would be able to get a full refund.
Some U.S. Retailers Are Reportedly Not Refunding Concord Just Yet
And while the refunds have already started since then, it would appear that some people currently have trouble claiming them. One such testimony was recently shared by Reddit user Waltmathews, who said that they tried to return their physical copy of Concord at their local GameStop, only to be instructed to call the retailer’s customer support, who in turn directed them back to the store itself. Reddit user Azryel_sXe subsequently said that they have experienced the same back-and-forth with Target, thus being unable to refund the game as of September 5.
GameStop Reportedly Didn’t Have a Company-Wide Concord Refund Policy as of September 4
Both of these issues appear to be isolated incidents rather than indicators of any nationwide patterns, as there is presently no shortage of social media reports from PS5 owners who were able to refund their physical copies of the game. According to a recent Reddit post from a purported GameStop employee, the retailer still had no company-wide policy for Concord refunds as of September 4, which may have created some early confusion over how returns were meant to be handled, resulting in situations like the one Waltmathews had described. While all of this was happening, some scalpers began trying to take advantage of the game’s recently established scarcity by peddling Concord for ridiculous prices.
Anyone who has so far encountered issues with returning the physical copy of the game is hence advised to try again in the days ahead. Calling customer support from a store that’s refusing refunds might also be a good idea that would provide CS agents and store staff with an opportunity to figure things out between themselves. All of this only applies to the physical copy of the game, which was only released for the PS5. Most PC gamers who bought Concord should have already been issued automatic refunds by Steam and Epic Games Store.
As for the game itself, Concord is officially dead as of today, September 6. Firewalk Studios Game Director Ryan Ellis previously said that the game would be pulled so that the developer can “determine the best path ahead.” Whether Concord might end up being relaunched in the future is currently unclear.
