Law & Order: SVU fans are all riled up after previously filmed red carpet footage went viral over the weekend, showing Mariska Hargitay seemingly being “summoned” by her on-screen beau, Christopher Meloni.
One fan re-uploaded the footage, originally taken at the 2022 Emmy Awards, on X, showing Meloni standing solo for his photo opp in front of the NBC and Emmys-branded step-and-repeat. Mid-snaps, he reached out his left arm, holding it in the air for a moment before his co-star floated into the frame, snaking her arm behind his back. The photographers cheered in what seemed like a near-magical moment that some compared to Thor and his hammer, Mjölnir.
Fans felt their hearts fluttering over the sweet moment, with one writing, “she really came through like it was fate 🥹.”
“it’s like they’re magnets😭,” another observed, while someone else replied, “10/10 execution no notes 😭😭😭😭😭.”
“He didn’t even have to look in her direction 😭🤣,” someone swooned over the “just too pure” moment, with another impressed that he “Never broke eye contact with the camera.”
“Bro just extended the arm and magic happened,” another wrote, while two others appreciated, “love how he just went 🫱 and she was summoned immediately 😭,” and “she just spawned there 😭😭.”
Fans of their respective characters, Olivia Benson (Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Meloni), have been on the edge of their seats for years waiting for one to confess their love to the other—and they often project that desire onto the actors.
Years ago, when Hargitay was dubbed Meloni’s “second wife,” she didn’t necessarily disagree with the sentiment. However, she did observe that “the uber fans literally want [their] spouses to go away” despite both being happily married.
As such, many other fans reading the comments on the resurfaced video pointed out that “Their spouses have to be the strongest human beings in the world.”
For her part, Hargitay has been married to fellow Law & Order cast member Peter Hermann since 2004, while Meloni married his wife, Sherman Williams, in 1995.
