The most popular theory regarding the identity of Joe Locke’s “Teen” is that he could be the MCU’s version of Billy Kaplan, a.k.a. Wiccan, the reincarnated form of Billy Maximoff, one of the Scarlet Witch’s sons. It has been suggested that Kaplan’s body may have died during the Eastview car accident referenced in Agatha All Along’s premiere episode, with Maximoff’s soul inhabiting his form. However, a new theory puts a strange twist on this theory, as “Teen” may think he’s someone very different indeed.
Joe Locke’s “Teen” May Think He Is Nicholas Scratch: Agatha Theory Explained
Nicholas Scratch Hasn’t Yet Made His MCU Debut
A theory posed by Reddit user catattack24 suggests that “Teen” could actually think that he is Agatha Harkness’ own son, Nicholas Scratch, rather than Billy Maximoff. The introduction of Agatha Harkness’ cat, Señor Scratchy, in WandaVision teased the existence of Nicholas Scratch in the MCU, but Agatha All Along has confirmed that he does (or did) indeed exist. Rumors imply that Agatha Harkness sacrificed her son in exchange for the Darkhold, allowing her to hide from Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal with the Book of the Damned’s dark magic.
Throughout Agatha All Along’s first three episodes, the titular Salem witch has expressed her regret and grief at the loss of her son. She carries a lock of hair in her Mother, Maiden, Crone pendant, keeps Nicholas Scratch’s room pristine and untouched, and was in extreme distress at the appearance of the Darkhold in a crib in her Alewife’s Revenge hallucination. It makes sense that “Teen” would know a lot about Agatha Harkness and witchcraft if he thought he was Scratch, as he would have done his research on the mother who abandoned him.
Signs Point To Agatha Harkness Already Thinking “Teen” May Be Her Son
Agatha Harkness May Also Suspect Nicholas Scratch’s Return
While the mystery of “Teen’s” true identity has been retained thus far, there have been signs that Agatha Harkness herself may suspect that “Teen” is her son. Her interest was immediately piqued upon seeing the sigil placed on “Teen,” and the fact that any important piece of personal information about “Teen” has been censored has only exacerbated her curiosity. Agatha All Along episode 3,” Through Many Miles of Tricks and Trials,” seemed to prove that Agatha thinks “Teen” is Nicholas Scratch, however.
During the first trial of the Witches’ Road, Agatha Harkness is pushed to drink the poisoned wine by the other members of the coven, with “Teen” urging her harder than most. Usually, Agatha would fight back against a steadfast snap such as that given by “Teen,” but she takes it. When “Teen” suggests he’ll drink in her place, she vehemently refuses, almost as if protecting her own child from bearing the consequences of the Alewife’s Revenge. This hints at Agatha Harkness thinking that “Teen” is Nicholas Scratch, but this could take a very dark turn in the series’ upcoming episodes.
Shocking Theory Kills Off Agatha Harkness But Brings Back The Scarlet Witch
Agatha Harkness May Sacrifice Herself For “Teen”
The Reddit theory suggests that Agatha Harkness’ protective instincts regarding “Teen” could lead her to sacrifice herself to allow him to get to the end of the Witches’ Road. If “Teen” thinks he is Nicholas Scratch, the close relationship he builds with Agatha Harkness may urge him to wish for his mother to be resurrected, hoping to be reunited with Agatha. This is the twist. Wishing for his mother to be resurrected may bring back Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch, as the theory suggests “Teen” is actually Billy Kaplan with the soul of the magic Maximoff brother.
Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch sacrificed herself in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in order to destroy Mount Wundagore and every copy of the Darkhold across the multiverse. Despite this, Elizabeth Olsen has been heavily rumored to be returning to the MCU.
This would be an incredibly dark way for Marvel Studios to bring the Scarlet Witch back following her demise in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. “Teen’s” dynamic with his returned mother, Wanda Maximoff, would be very interesting to explore, particularly if he thought his mother was Agatha all along. This would also deepen the mystery surrounding the real Nicholas Scratch in Agatha All Along, which could set up some huge stories in the MCU’s future.
New episodes of Agatha All Along release every Wednesday at 6pm PT/9pm ET on Disney+.
