The Lord of the Rings surprise film announcement has come totally out of the blue

Lord Of The Rings fans have finally got what they’ve been waiting years for in a surprise release coming to HBO Max.

The Lord Of The Rings is still a massive IP years and years after the books and films released, with TV shows like The Rings Of Power and a new animated film coming out later this year.

There are even more films on the horizon as well, like a film about Gollum to go with the God-awful game we got last year…

That’s not what we’re talking about today though as a cult-classic Lord Of The Rings adaptation that’s very hard to find nowadays will soon be coming to HBO Max, 1978’s The Lord of the Rings.

Now there’s a lot of history with this adaptation, and I’d imagine a few of you would recognise it from some popular internet memes that made fun of the art style. The Adult Swim TV series Smiling Friends even paid homage to it in the ‘Enchanted Forest’ episode.

When it released, it was ripped apart by fans who were disappointed that it collected the events of the first two Lord Of The Rings books, The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers.

The third part of the story was never adapted, but over time fans moved on and the animated film became cult classic.

If you’ve never watched and never known where to find it you’re in luck as it’s coming to HBO Max very soon, as the streaming giant recently acquired the rights to broadcast it.

Joining it is 1977’s The Hobbit, an animated musical special that aired on TV and adapted the story of the novel.

They’re worth watching if you’re a fan of the IP, as they look to have aged pretty well despite their mileage.
