A recent Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts graduate will be heading to the final round of NBC’s “The Voice.”
On Monday, Shye Roberts, 18, performed Brandi Carlile’s “The Joke,” as part of her live round performance. She was one of eight contestants to perform, and viewers voted for her and four others to proceed to the final round.
Roberts, a 2024 graduate from the charter school, is on singer Michael Bublé’s team. Her performance Monday impressed the coaches, with singer Gwen Stefani telling Roberts that she has a unique, identifiable voice.
“I’m excited for your future,” she said.
Singer Reba McEntire told Roberts that her voice stood out, calling it round, pure and crisp.
“You mesmerize me,” she said. “I love your singing.”
Bublé told her he has never heard anybody on the competition sound like her.
“You are the real deal Shye,” he said.
Now Roberts and four others will compete in the final episodes, scheduled to take place Monday and Tuesday nights.
Roberts first appeared on The Voice in October, during her blind audition. Her performance of Five for Fighting’s “Superman” prompted a four-chair turn from the judges. She skipped her high school graduation to attend her audition.
Later, she performed Justin Beiber’s “Lose Yourself,” and then Katy Perry’s “The One that Got Away.”
Last week, she performed One Direction’s “Story of My Life.”
The Voice airs at 8 p.m. Monday and 9 p.m. Tuesday on NBC.
