After renewing Nobody Wants This for a second season, Netflix is also showing some early love to one of its other signature series. The Diplomat, led by Keri Russell, isn’t returning for Season 2 until later this month, but that isn’t stopping Netflix from renewing the series for Season 3.
Per Variety, Netflix has handed out an early Season 3 renewal to The Diplomat ahead of its Season 2 premiere on Oct. 31. With news of the renewal also comes word that production has already started on the third season in London and New York. When speaking about the third season, creator and showrunner Debora Cahn said, “Season 3 flips the chessboard. Kate lives in the particular nightmare that is getting what you want.”
The Diplomat follows Kate Wyler (Russell) as the new United States ambassador to the United Kingdom. As she defuses an international crisis and forges new alliances, she has to adjust to her new position in the spotlight while also putting focus on her broken marriage with fellow diplomat Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell). Season 2 is expected to see Kate look into an attack on London while also investigating a prior attack on a British aircraft carrier off the coast of Iran, which appears to be an inside job orchestrated by the British government.
