Jodie Foster has been in show business since she was around 3 yrs old. She started out in commercials. She was the original Coppertone baby in TV ads. Her older brother, Buddy, also did commercials. Her mother was the driving force behind their show business careers.

Then eventually Jodie landed roles in different television series, I’m not sure which ones. She could memorize and read lines well. Her mother said she started reading at age 3 and 4. I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t read much at age 4, except maybe my own name. I’m about the same age as Jodie, and back in those days, the 60’s and 70’s, kids weren’t prepped a lot like they are today. There were very few day-cares around to teach early learning to children like they do today.

Anyway, by the age of 13, a precocious Jodie, landed the role that would kick start a lengthy and successful acting career for her, playing a child prostitute, opposite Robert DeNero, in Martin Scorsese’s, Taxi Driver. Quite impressive and she was nominated for an Academy Award (didn’t win it that year). Later she went on to win Academy Awards for The Accused and for Silence of The Lambs, both riveting performances by her.

Jodie Foster is one very intelligent woman. Don’t underestimate her. I wouldn’t want to be on Jeopardy competing against her, lol, that’s for sure. She is fluent in the French language.

She also graduated magna cum laude in 1985 from Yale University. In my opinion, that is no small feat! Incredible, if you ask me!

Go Jodie!

*wikipedia states, “Magna cum laude, A latin phrase meaning “with high honors.” This distinction is given to graduates, usually from a college or university, who have received the second highest level of academic excellence as required by the university. This is one level below Summa cum laude.
