True Detective: Night Country ended up being a massive hit for HBO, and it was the most-watched installment of the series. With the series being such a success, Season 5 was ordered and showrunner Issa López was brought back to develop the next season.
Fans of Night Country have been wondering if the next installment of the series would continue that story, or if it would do something completely new and different.
According to López, Season 5 will involve new characters and a whole new location. She said that it is “completely different.”
During an interview with Variety, she said: “In the writing, and it’s a blast. It’s completely different. There’s different characters, different setting, different story — and I’m enjoying it like crazy.”
López obviously isn’t going to share any story details yet, but she did add: “I will not tell you that yet — yet. But it’s a completely different adventure. Let’s put it that way.”
I’m curious to see what story this next season will tell, and I imagine it will attract some big talent.
In True Detective: Night Country, “When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”
