Captain America, the man with the plan, did one mistake in Avengers: Endgame while fighting Thanos that changed the tide of the battle!
Captain America (or Steve Rogers) wasn’t the brightest kid when he was training for the military. The kid had heart and an undeterred courage that made him pass Dr. Abraham Erskine’s test.

Call it a stroke of genius of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or call it Captain America’s dumbness, but there was a scene highlighting that part. In Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers had the chance to end Thanos but instead… he chose to choke Thanos (like he did to Ultron).
Call It a Stroke of Genius of Marvel or The Dumbness of Captain America
In 2018, we saw half of the world disintegrate into literal dust in front of our eyes. In 2019, we saw Iron Man wield the Infinity Gauntlet and snap Thanos and his army out of existence.
Although he sacrificed himself during the process, the world respected the sacrifice of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. However, it seems that if Captain America had just been smart enough, Iron Man would still be alive.
The scene was shared on Instagram where fans saw the moment Rogers wielded the hammer of Thor. Fans were so lost in the excitement of the scene that they forgot to notice one major plot hole in the movie.
When Thor (with his new weapon) is trying to pin down Thanos, Captain America joins him. Holding both weapons against his neck, Thanos escapes eventually. However, what seemed the most important part was that Thanos didn’t have the Infinity Gauntlet with him at that time.
The Gauntlet was sitting beside Thanos while Thor was trying to choke him. Captain America completely missed the Infinity Gauntlet and jumped on Thanos’ back in trying to pin him down. Well, it seems that history does have a way of repeating itself.
If Steve Rogers had been smart enough, he could have simply picked up the Infinity Gauntlet and changed the tide of the battle. But, what can you do? The kid’s got a heart after all.
Captain America’s Return is Now Unlikely in the MCU
The last that fans saw of Steve Rogers was him sitting on a bench being old and wise. Suffice it to say that he retired, fans wanted more of Cap but it seems that the MCU had other plans.

Even during an interview with /Film, Anthony Russo (one of the directors of Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War) talked about this iconic character. According to him, it would be quite tough to upend such a morally strong character to further his MCU arc.
We always talk about him, he’s such a tough character in a lot of ways because he’s so strong and so centered, he has such strong ethics and morals, how do you upend a character like that?
Call it dumbness or Marvel remembering their characters in detail, it seems that Rogers did make a mistake. Nonetheless, the future remained unaffected as Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man made the ultimate sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame.
The iconic film received a rating of 8.4/10 on IMDB and a whopping 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. As always, Avengers: Endgame is available to stream on Disney+ in the U.S.
