The actress offered a special way to make it up to the reporter.
Anne Hathaway is known as one of Hollywood’s most beloved actresses, but even on-screen darlings have their off days. After journalist Kjersti Flaa went viral for her “awkward” interview with Hathaway during the Les Misérables press cycle—during which the actress was experiencing media backlash for reportedly not being nice—Hathaway has since issued an apology, and has offered to correct course.
“Yesterday, I did receive an email. It was from Anne Hathaway’s publicist, and he forwarded a message to me from Anne Hathaway,” Flaa said on her show Flaawsome Talk. “I have to say, I was pretty shocked. I had not expected her to reach out to me at all. I thought she was never gonna even see that video. But she did. And she did something pretty amazing.”
Flaa further explained that Hathaway sent her “a long email explaining to me what she was going through right then when she did this interview, and she apologized for…giving me an awful interview basically.” The reporter continued, “It was so touching to me. Just talking about it makes me almost teary eyed, ’cause I was just so grateful that she did that. And it was a very personal note. And we decided that I wouldn’t share exactly what was in the email, but I just wanted to share with you guys what she did.”
The original video, posted to her YouTube, featured her conducting a press junket that featured several of the stars from the 2012 movie, including Hathaway. “Anne Hathaway wasn’t very excited to be singing to me, and the interview went completely downhill after that. She was being so dismissive of me,” Flaa said in between interspersed clips of her asking the actress questions that she simply responded “no” to without further elaboration. “She hated me.”
In their current exchange, Flaa revealed that Hathaway offered her an interview for the next movie she’s starring in. “So, yes, I’m really looking forward to that, Anne,” she said. “Thank you so much for doing that.”
