Naughty Dog has launched a brand new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but why they had to turn off the comment section of the trailer?
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is the next project from developer Naughty Dog, and it is not what any of us were expecting. The studio is perhaps best known for its work on the Uncharted and The Last of Us franchises these days, and some have quietly speculated that sequels for either series could be in the works.

What we’ve got instead is a brand new IP, the studio’s first since it unleashed The Last of Us on an unsuspecting world in 2013. Intergalactic is a sci-fi adventure with a gorgeous retrofuturism aesthetic, designed specifically to leverage the power of the PS5. However, fans didn’t seem to love this project, the way they did Uncharted and The Last of Us.

Just when everyone thought The Game Awards couldn’t get any better (or worse), Naughty Dog came up with a blast at the very end of the show, revealing Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Also know that the soundtrack will be composed by the renowned Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross and that Tati Gabrielle, who, coincidentally, starred in Sony’s Uncharted movie adaptation and will play Nora in The Last of Us season 2, will be the star.
Although the plot of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is being kept secret by Naughty Dog, we have learned a few things from that gorgeous reveal trailer. Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter who becomes stranded on Sempiria—a perilous planet that kills anyone who enters its orbit—will be the game’s new protagonist.
Jordan is traveling to the surface in order to collect a reward for Colin Graves, who was a member of the Five Aces, a notorious intergalactic criminal organization that terrorized the Bluestar Systems before going missing for no apparent reason. Jordan’s pursuit of these MIA criminals is evident from the reveal, but it’s unclear if this is for personal gain or to claim the missing loot.
Naughty Dog had to turn off the comments of the trailer on YouTube

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet might have become an overnight sensation, but the fans didn’t like that trailer at all. The video got so much backlash that Naughty Dog’s official YouTube channel had to turn off the comments. Majorly, the hate was because of the protagonist.

Naughty Dog is known for its unreal portrayals and larger-than-life depictions like we saw in Uncharted or The Last of Us. However, fans didn’t accept the main protagonist of a new franchise. Her significance in the trailer itself looked dull and didn’t put any major blow so that fans could root for her. To top it all off, she doesn’t really seem super appealing or interesting.
For an industry that prattles on and on about the importance of representation, they sure don’t want to represent who’s actually playing the games.
Their own philosophy should tell them how to make money.
This is a case of both malicious and stupid

That is why a fan has questioned Naughty Dog’s priority of representation, as they might not want to represent “who’s actually playing the games.” And their own philosophy is making them more money-minded, instead of thinking about what’s best for the fans. Here too, fans didn’t like the deliberate approach of implementing DEI in the game, which has become a trend in the industry.
However, everything will be settled down once Naughty Dog pulls out more details about the game from its sleeves. As of now, we don’t have a solid release date. Keeping in mind Naughty Dog usually takes around four years for a project and COVID-19 has already slowed down the development process which started in 2020, don’t expect this game to come in 2025 at least.
