Cate Blanchett hasn’t just got hundreds of awards to her name (yes, you read that right—the Australian actress has amassed a staggering 218 wins during her stellar career), she also boasts a flawless red carpet record too.
From the moment she had her breakthrough in the industry in the late 1990s, the Melbourne native has become a best-dressed list fixture, a red carpet target for the chicest luxury brands, and a trailblazer when it comes to re-wearing and repurposing her high-end pieces for photocalls and premieres.
Just like how her acting roles run the gamut between dramas, period pieces, biopics, action blockbusters, and fantasy films, her personal style continues to keep us guessing too. A proponent of an embellished gown as much as a sleek and sharp tailored suit, she never fails to be immaculately turned out in designs by the likes of Armani Privé, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, and Valentino, to name a few.
For the last decade, the 55-year-old has flown the flag for sustainable, circular fashion on the press junket circuit. In the past, at various film festivals, she’s made a pledge to only wear outfits she has previously worn. It’s now a regular occurrence to see the style maven stepping out in a divine dress or trouser suit that she’s already posed for the flashbulbs in. She’s even taken to reconfiguring her most popular designer looks, showing that it’s not only possible to deconstruct and reimagine previously worn hits, but it’s something that all stylists and celebrities should be championing at large.
Since 2018, Blanchett has joined forces with Elizabeth Stewart, catapulting her relationship with fashion into a new realm. As well as their commitment to sustainability, the duo ensures that Blanchett, who is a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Global Goodwill Ambassador, can use fashion as a vehicle to share her political, social, and ethical beliefs too.

Proving she can wear, quite literally, anything and make it look cool, Blanchett put her own spin on a standout look from the Fiorucci Spring 2025 collection—a top adorned with hair wefts co-created by the brand’s creative director Francesca Murr and hairstylist Taiba Akhuetie.

Why should a gown only see the light of day once? This is the question Blanchett has been asking for years. Case in point: a wet-look Armani Privé cutout number she took for a spin twice in 2023. At the SAG Awards, she even wore it layered over a lace underlay from another Armani Privé dress she’s dazzled crowds in before.

Blanchett is a noted fan of McQueen and its former creative director, Sarah Burton. For Burton’s swansong outing during Paris Fashion Week in September 2023, Blanchett dusted down one of her own favorites from her closet: a sculptural trouser suit showcasing Burton’s impeccable command of tailoring. The actress had previously debuted the outfit as a tuxedo dress during the Cannes Film Festival in 2018.

It’s back! It was a case of déjà vu involving one of our favorite Blanchett red carpet moments ever at the Berlinale International Film Festival for the premiere of Tár last year. Wearing this distinctive Givenchy Couture backless turtleneck and layered ruffle skirt hybrid gown, she sent our hearts soaring once more, just like the first time she wore the show-stopping look in 2018 at the Cannes Film Festival.

Of all her frocks, this might just be Blanchett’s very favorite! Technically, the star has worn it three times: once to the Golden Globes in 2014 (when she took home the award for Best Performance in a Drama for her role in Blue Jasmine), and again at Cannes in 2018. As mentioned above, she also repurposed the lace underlay for the 2023 SAG Awards. Now there’s a dress that goes the extra mile!
