Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the 18-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has filed to drop Pitt from her surname. According to PEOPLE, Shiloh is requesting to go by the name “Shiloh Jolie.” The filing took place on Monday, May 27, coinciding with her 18th birthday. TMZ first reported this development.

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, 18, Files To Legally Drop ‘Pitt’ From Her Name

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt share six children, Maddox (22), Zahara (19), Shiloh (18), Pax (20), and twins Knox and Vivienne (15). Shiloh’s decision to change her name is not an isolated case within the family. In the Playbill for the new musical The Outsiders, which their daughter Vivienne helped produce alongside her mother, she is listed as “Vivienne Jolie” instead of “Vivienne Jolie-Pitt,” PEOPLE has confirmed however, it is unclear if Vivienne has legally changed her name as well.

Additionally, last November, Zahara introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie” while joining the Mu Pi chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College, as shown in a video shared by Essence.

These name changes come amid long-standing reports of strained relationships between Brad Pitt and his children following Angelina Jolie’s 2016 divorce filing, where she sought sole physical custody of their kids. In August 2022, a source close to Pitt told PEOPLE that the actor, now 60, has been hoping to improve his relationship with his children amid the ongoing custody battle. The source described the situation as “sad” and noted that “many times, there have been long gaps where he didn’t see the kids at all.”

Throughout the years, Jolie and Pitt have also been entangled in legal disputes over the custody of their children and their shared winery, Chateau Miraval. Jolie’s lawyer recently stated to PEOPLE, “All Angelina has ever wanted was separation and health, with positive relationships between all members of their family, including Mr. Pitt.”

The former couple welcomed their third child, Shiloh, on May 27, 2006. She has two older siblings, Maddox and Zahara, and was later joined by Pax and twins Knox and Vivienne.
