The latest episode of Agatha All Along introduced the coven—what remains of it—to a new challenge. This week’s trial was the Trial of Time, giving Lilia a chance to shine as a divination witch.

Until now, Lilia Calderu has mostly been a background character, despite dropping several significant hints. Her decision to place a sigil on Billy Kaplan may also have repercussions in other MCU projects.

The latest episode provided some insight into Lilia’s past. We learned that she was a young witch in Sicily centuries ago, where her Maestra tried to help her shape and harness her abilities, but Lilia always struggled with it.

It turns out Lilia has been experiencing something quite unique—she has been living her life in a time loop. This condition first appeared when she was a girl, but she chose to ignore it until it faded away, only to resurface when she met Billy Kaplan at his Bar Mitzvah and glimpsed his future.

So, how does this work? Lilia Calderu can jump through time and space, but she doesn’t retain memories of these encounters. Instead, she is left with fragments of information that she must piece together herself.

This is why Lilia was able to “warn” Alice not to help Agatha during her trial—she knew it would lead to Alice’s death, but struggled to communicate this clearly. As a result, her warnings came in fragments during two different episodes: “Alice, don’t” and “try to save Agatha.”

This time-slipping phenomenon is unusual in the MCU, but it’s not entirely unique. Recall that it’s similar to Loki’s experience. In season 2 of Loki, he is randomly transported across space and time after his failed attempt to fix the Time Loom.

The solution to Loki’s problem was to gain control over his condition and ultimately replace the Time Loom and He Who Remains as the God of Time and stories.

Similarly, Lilia found a way to manage her condition—she needed to accept her own death. As a divination witch for centuries, she had seen it all but struggled to come to terms with the moment of her demise.

During the trial, she realized that Rio Vidal was Lady Death and that her time was drawing near. This revelation gave her the strength to sacrifice herself to defeat Salem’s Seven, allowing the coven to move on to the next trial—which we know will involve Billy.

The shared abilities of Lilia Calderu and Loki might hint at a deeper connection between them and the larger multiverse, suggesting that this may not be the last we see of Lilia.
