In recent years, AI has become both a problem and a solution in the movie industry, depending on your perspective. Many people involved in creative work worry that AI might replace human actors, writers, and crew members. If studios start using AI to make characters or write scripts, there could be fewer jobs for real people.

There are also worries about who owns the rights to content created by AI. If an AI comes up with a character or a script, it’s not clear who deserves credit or payment for that work.

AI was a big topic during the recent SAG-AFTRA strike, which caused major changes in the industry. Beyond money and creativity, AI also raises some moral and ethical questions.

For instance, if an actor has died, should studios be allowed to use AI to bring them back? Many people think this is wrong, and Robert Downey Jr. is one of them.

Recently, RDJ was on the “On with Kara Swisher” podcast, where he spoke out against using his image for AI. He made it clear that he would sue anyone who tried. He also mentioned that even after he’s gone, his law firm will still be active and ready to defend his wishes.

There’s two tracks. How do I feel about everything that’s going on? I feel about it minimally because I have an actual emotional life that’s occurring that doesn’t have a lot of room for that.

To go back to the MCU, I’m not worried about them hijacking my character’s soul because there’s like three or four guys and gals who make all the decisions there anyway and they would never do that to me, with or without me

I would like to here state that I intend to sue all future executives just on spec… […]But my law firm will still be very active

Downey also shared his thoughts on his long-term investments in AI companies. He said it’s not just about the technology or making money. He wants to know who is behind these companies and if they have good values. He thinks about why they are using the technology, whether their leaders can be trusted, and if he can learn anything from it. So, he has a balanced view on these issues.
