Do we really need to cry for them?

Even though the events in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, now being adapted into House of the Dragon on HBO, are not real, viewers still take the support of one side or the other very seriously. The battles between Team Black and Team Green that began in season 1 have only gotten worse in season 2.

Even the actors, whose job it is to do justice to their characters, cannot stay away from the discourse. However, only one of them had an answer most of us would probably stand behind in real life.

Is House of the Dragon Cast Team Black or Team Green?

Although the majority of the House of the Dragon cast support the side their characters are on in order to stay true to the script, Rhys Ifans, who portrays Otto Hightower, is not so sure about either side. In fact, his position is the most realistic view of the events that took place during George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood novel.

When asked which side of the war he would find himself on during the second season’s premiere, the actor would not commit to either Team Black or his character’s Team Green. Instead, he concluded that both sides were equally terrible.

“Both sides are genocidal, crazy war criminals. So I think we should all enjoy seeing how they die,” he answered.

While some viewers have criticized the actor for throwing around the term ‘genocidal’ in the tough times the world is facing today, there is a glimmer of truth behind the statement. Throughout season 1, it was pretty obvious who had the moral grounding. However, as the war unfolds, both teams will end up as war criminals.

Not caring about the casualties on either side of a Targaryen family, they will turn on each other in a battle for the Iron Throne. But it is other noble houses and commoners who will fall victim to their twisted games. Of course, no one watching only the show can see this coming right now, but all book readers can only nod and agree with Ifans.

For now, House of the Dragon fans are left wondering what will happen next on the show. During the last three episodes of the second season, the writers have exhausted all the ways to tell the audience that the war is inevitable, so viewers are hoping and praying that the first battle will take place next week.

If you are just as excited, be sure to tune in to House of the Dragon season 2 every Sunday on HBO and Max.
