Kristen Bell & Adam Brody’s 2024 Netflix Series With 94% Rotten Tomatoes Score Becomes Global Hit

Adam Brody and Kristen Bell on the couch in Nobody Wants ThisNobody Wants This, the new Netflix romantic comedy starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, is quickly becoming a hit on Netflix. Created by Erin Foster, partially based on her own experiences falling for her husband, the 10-episode series centers on the unlikely romance that forms between the agnostic and successful podcaster Joanne (Bell) and the unconventional rabbi Noah (Brody) after they meet at a dinner party. It also delves into the struggles they face to keep the relationship afloat, with a Nobody Wants This supporting cast that includes Succession‘s Justine Lupe, Veep‘s Timothy Simons, and GLOW alum Jackie Tohn.

Just days after its September 26 debut on Netflix, the romcom is building up to a strong start on Netflix. It came in second on the streamer’s global television charts, just behind Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Overall, Nobody Wants This gathered 45,700,000 hours viewed and 10.3 million views. It’s worth noting, given that a view is calculated as the total hours viewed divided by the total runtime, Nobody Wants This has a runtime of roughly four hours and a half hours, while Monsters is almost eight hours long.

Why Nobody Wants This Is Taking Off On Netflix

There Are A Few Reasons

Noah talks from the bimah of the temple in Nobody Wants This
Bina and Ilan sit in the temple in Nobody Wants This.

The show, which boasts a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, has only two negative reviews to date with a very strong 7.60 out of 10 overall score. It’s a success from its marketing, which slyly pitched it as a rom-com between The O.C.‘s Seth Cohen and Veronica Mars. Even though Joanne and Noah do echo their famous breakout performances in some ways, their dynamic in Nobody Wants This is all its own.

Bell executive produces the series, as does Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan, and the cast also includes Sherry Cola, Paul-Ben Victor, and The Good Place star D’Arcy Carden .

Having been scene partners before in the 2013 film Some Girl(s) and the Showtime series House of LiesBrody and Bell bring familiarity to their first time acting opposite each other as romantic leads. It’s helped by strong writing, which finds interesting ways to present rom-com tropes and a strong supporting group of actors that have their own engaging stories by the time the finale rolls around.

The success also speaks to the durability of the rom-com genre and the importance of having the right people at the center of the story. Brody has shied away from the genre over the past few years, instead favoring supporting roles and playing antagonists. Bell, after appearing in several rom-com films, might have had her best on TV. With a Nobody Wants This ending that leaves the door open for season 2, the early success is a positive.

Even though the series creator has mentioned her desire to continue the series, it is a bit too early to speculate about a renewal for Nobody Wants This season 2 because most Netflix shows start strong on the streaming charts. But in its debut week, Bell and Brody’s scenes have gone viral on social media and garnered waves of praise. If it keeps up, a follow-up is almost guaranteed.
