Moreover, the show continues to drop hints that Wanda may not be gone for good. As one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most powerful magic users, the Scarlet Witch shouldn’t be off of the board for too long. Wanda is not only far too interesting and important to remain dead, but she’s also too popular. The MCU is undoubtedly setting the stage for Wanda to return; it’s just a matter of when.
Scarlet Witch’s MCU Return Feels More & More Inevitable
Marvel Keeps Including Scarlet Witch Easter Eggs In Their Shows And Films
The Scarlet Witch is due for a return to the MCU, and the franchise has been foreshadowing her return. Beyond Agatha All Along, a statue of Wanda from the place of her death was seen in the Void during Deadpool & Wolverine. Though a minor reference, the visual of Wanda felt less like a one-off and more of a reminder that she too was in a multiverse-themed MCU film. It’s unlikely that she’s in the Void, but the presence of her statue creates doubt about her fate.
Even so, the most likely MCU project to feature Wanda in the near future is still Agatha All Along. Not only has the show dropped repeated clues that point to Wanda’s return, but one of its characters might include a major familial link to her. Teen, a young magic-seeker in Agatha’s coven, is widely speculated to be an older version of Wanda’s son, Billy Maximoff. His identity is a mystery due to a magic sigil that prevents him from sharing his name. Most current evidence points toward this theory, and if Teen is Billy, a Wanda return may be imminent.
Agatha All Along’s Latest Episode Teased Scarlet Witch Again
The Devil Is In The Details When It Comes To Wanda
Custom Image by Severina ChuThe most recent episode of Agatha All Along included a nod to Wanda in an unexpected way. In a 1970s-themed trial, Alice, a member of Agatha’s coven, had to perform “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road” as a protection spell of sorts. The song itself has nothing to do with Wanda, but Alice’s record lists a track titled “Red Haired Woman.” This could easily be an easter egg referencing Wanda, though she has had multiple hair colors throughout her time in the MCU. Because of the mystical nature of the Witches’ Road, however, the record may not be a coincidence.
Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer had this to say when Entertainment Weekly asked about Wanda appearing in the series:
” Agatha is not a character who’s going to stand in anyone’s shadow, so this is emphatically Agatha Harkness’ show. However, we are in the WandaVision corner of the universe, so Wanda’s legacy has threads in this narrative. “
While not a confirmation, Schaeffer’s response wasn’t a denial either. Whether or not Teen is Billy, the Scarlet Witch’s presence is felt in Agatha All Along, and her return to the MCU could be very soon.
