As Disney continues it’s content purge, rumors of The Acolyte’s erasure picks up steam after cancelation.

season 2 of the acolyte

The Acolyte received its fair share of flack after Disney decided to give its $ 180 million investment a chance on its streaming service. However, the show managed to alienate whatever small amount of loyal fans were left for the IP, instead catering to a nonexistent set of fans, that neither cared nor were happy about what Star Wars even was.

Disney saw fit to cancel the show and renew it for a second season, given that it might not have made the amount of money that the studio expected it to bring. Further, there seems to be a conscious effort at Disney to produce content that will cater to the core audience that it managed to alienate over half a decade. However, Disney seems to be going a step further with The Acolyte, not just canceling its Season 2, but probably making it so that the fandom will forget.

There have been a lot of rumors that are circulating online about The Acolyte. Given how much of the canon the show broke, numerous ideas have begun to develop about its legacy and existence in the Star Wars franchise. More recently, Disney has gotten rid of another underperforming show, Willow, which was based on a cult classic fantasy film that came out in 1988. This was done as part of a wider effort from Disney to cut costs, and fans believe this is the fate waiting for The Acolyte as well.

A lot of fans are looking forward to the deletion of the content, given that they believe it is in the best interest of the fandom to forget the mess that was The Acolyte. Further, it seems that Disney has finally decided to listen to their fans and focus on making content that their core audience want to see, instead of trying to onboard a whole different demography that does not care for the lore, history, and traditions of the fandom.

It is about time that Star Wars moves away from the remnants of the Skywalker Saga and refocuses on telling meaningful stories

Star Wars made a commitment to fans to explore the wider universe by moving away from the Skywalker Saga. Disney removing the Legends timeline was already a massive blow to the fandom and the new lore that the House of Mouse generated did not sit well with fans.

Moving on from the Skywalkers and focusing on telling new stories into the future might be where the merit of the franchise lies. With Disney keen on course correcting their mistakes and not much content left to be wrapped up, Star Wars can approach a bold new time in the years that followed the events of the Skywalker saga, perhaps even a new era hundreds of years in the future of the timeline.

The focus could be on a completely new set of characters with conflicts of their own, focusing on developments of old technologies within the Star Wars universe, and also seeing how events set in motion by our heroes fare so far in the future.

For now, The Acolyte can be streamed on Disney+
