Well, at least someone could find something good about it.
Although some fans claim to understand the Game of Thrones finale better after re-watching it, the majority still agree that it was a hot mess. For the show that had been consistently good for so many years, to lose it all in its final season was beyond disappointing. The disappointment was not only shared by the fans but also by the cast.
Many actors like Lena Headey, who portrayed Cersei Lannister, Emilia Clarke, who portrayed Daenerys Targaryen, and Kit Harrington, who portrayed Jon Snow, were not happy with the way their characters ended up.
However, there is one actor who finds his character’s finale very fitting.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who portrayed Jaime Lannister for the entire 8 seasons of the iconic fantasy series, shared his thoughts on Jaime’s death in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“I thought it was a great ending for that couple. She was never going to surrender. And he says it to Bronn in season 4. Bronn asked, “How would you want it to end?” And Jaime says, “In the arms of the woman I love.” So this was foreshadowed and that’s what happened,” the actor said.
Coster-Waldau also noted that he thought the audience would be upset that Jaime did not stay with Brienne, and he was right. While he thinks the ending is exactly the way it should have been, fans disagree and think it erases all the character development he’s had throughout the series.
Fighting so hard for himself, learning to trust and love, and helping those who need his help, only to crawl back to his manipulative sister to share his final moments with her is not what people who root for Jaime wanted to see. The character deserved to live and die an honorable death, with or without Brienne at his side.
Whether you agree with how Jaime died in the series or not, the book canon is still up in the air, as the final book in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series has yet to be published. Stay tuned to not miss any important updates!
