Despite the news that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is officially in production, it appears as though some fans are unhappy.
Earlier this week saw the announcement that Hogwarts Legacy 2 was officially in the works and is a “very big priority” for Avalanche Software and Warner Bros.
With the news that this sequel would coordinate with the storylines from the upcoming HBO Harry Potter series, you would think that fans would be excited.
However, that is seemingly not the case according to a discussion over on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours.
“Coordinating with the HBO show sounds like a mess, especially with how often Zaslav cancels stuff on there,” one comment said, referring to the current CEO and president of Warner Bros. Discovery.
Another user agreed, saying: “I don’t get it. Why limit yourself creatively when you are doing a video game which has far more options than doing some within film or TV?
Now you have guidelines on what you can add and what you can’t because of a TV show. If I play the game, will I have to watch the TV show for more context on something plot wise and vice versa?”
The news also begs the question as to what the storyline will be for Hogwarts Legacy 2 considering the HBO show is supposed to be a “remake” of the original Harry Potter movies.
However, Hogwarts Legacy is set around a century before the events of the movie and book series.
Does this mean that we will see the story told once again in video game format or are we wrong about the storyline for the new television adaptation?
Either way, the majority of fans in the aforementioned Reddit thread are seemingly against this idea and would prefer the focus to be on being a Hogwarts student rather than The Chosen One.
With production for Hogwarts Legacy 2 still in its early stages, it remains to be seen how both the video game and TV show will manage to work together.
