George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise is a pillar of modern science fiction. What started out as a relatively ambitious space opera project became one of the most lucrative and popular franchises in history. Being present for several decades now, Star Wars has raised multiple generations of fans and it still remains one of the best fictional universes ever created.
But, just like many other franchises in recent years, the Star Wars franchise has been experiencing problems. The critics are more numerous and the projects aren’t as beloved as they were decades ago. And while things are definitely changing, it doesn’t seem they’re changing for the better as far as the Star Wars franchise is concerned.
We know that The Acolyte has just been canceled, and the upcoming Skeleton Crew is already being in the center of a controversy, months before the premiere. What does this mean for the future of Star Wars television projects? An industry insider reveals a very grim rumor.
As the tweet we are going to quote soon confirms, this rumor has been put out there by DanielRPK, a well-known and trusted industry insider who – more often than not – is known for his scoops and getting things right. Of course, this is just a rumor still, so take it with a grain of salt, but this is what it says:
Lando is now a film, Rangers of the New Republic was canceled, Andor will end with S2, no Mando S4, no Boba Fett S2, no Acolyte S2, Skeleton Crew is a limited series. Ahsoka is the only ongoing Star Wars show. No other live action series has been announced for development.

As you can see, this definitely looks grim, especially in light of the fact that he is right about The Acolyte and that everything points to him being right about Skeleton Crew as well; the other projects are still too far away for us to claim anything with certainty.
That there would be no second season of The Book of Boba Fett doesn’t surprise us and we already knew that Andor would be ending with a second season. Ahsoka is good to go, which is definitely great, but no Season 4 of The Mandalorian? Either Filoni and Favreau changed their plans, or something major is happening at Lucasfilm because there is no way that they would simply abandon The Mandalorian like that.
On the other hand, Lando is becoming a movie, which might turn out fine, but the planned New Republic show is scrapped, as it seems, which means that Lucasfilm is changing its outlook on the future of the franchise, i.e., we’ll have to see how the New Republic era will be explored in the end.
It seems that Lucasfilm is reconsidering how to approach the future. Whether that will be good or not remains to be seen, but something is definitely happening!
