Black gloves found near Nancy Guthrie’s home being tested for DNA, sheriff’s department says
TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News/Gray News) – Investigators are looking into a pair of black gloves found near 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie’s home as well as the backpack the suspect was wearing in surveillance images.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed with KOLD’s Valerie Cavazos that black gloves were found Wednesday in Nancy Guthrie’s neighborhood. The department said the gloves are being tested for DNA but did not say what kind of gloves they are.
Some media was on scene when a glove was discovered.
A law enforcement source close to the case also told KOLD that investigators are familiar with the brand of backpack seen in recently released surveillance images, possibly an Ozark Trail Hiker, and are looking into it and other brands.
The PCSD is expanding its request for security video from anyone living near Nancy Guthrie’s Catalina Foothills home.
According to a post made on Wednesday, the PCSD is asking people to check their cameras for video from 9 p.m. to midnight on Jan. 11 and from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Jan. 31.
The PCSD said there was a suspicious vehicle spotted on Via Entrada around 10 a.m. on Jan. 31, the last day anyone has seen Nancy Guthrie alive.
Meanwhile, the FBI said numerous “agents are conducting an extensive search along multiple roadways in the Catalina Foothills area related to the Nancy Guthrie investigation.”
Investigators could be seen knocking on doors at neighboring homes and scouring the terrain or properties nearby.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department reported it received nearly 18,000 calls on the case since Feb. 1 and more than 4,000 in the last 24 hours.
The sheriff’s department also said several hundred detectives and agents are currently assigned to the case. Residents should expect to see increased law enforcement activity throughout Pima County.
Wednesday morning’s statements follow Tuesday night’s developments where a man was detained and a search warrant was served at a home in connection to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, but he was later released.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department previously confirmed it was “conducting a court-authorized search” of a location in Rio Rico Tuesday evening.
The man who said he was detained, Carlos Palazuelos, said he doesn’t know why it happened but just wants to clear his name.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told 13 News’ Mary Coleman that there have been no signs of Nancy Guthrie.
FBI Director Kash Patel said Tuesday that agents were looking for “persons” of interest in the case.
Also on Tuesday, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department released surveillance images and videos of an armed individual outside Nancy Guthrie’s home the morning of her disappearance.
The FBI said investigators had been working with private sector partners to recover images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted or inaccessible due to a variety of factors, including the removal of the recording device.
The FBI said the video images were recovered from residual data located in backend systems.
Savannah Guthrie responded to Tuesday’s developments with a short Instagram post where she shared the FBI’s pictures.
“Someone out there recognizes this person. We believe she is still alive. Bring her home,” Guthrie said in her post.
President Donald Trump said he felt “pure disgust” when he saw the surveillance video.
