Adolescence is a show that doesn’t really need a second season. Its power is in telling a complete story, which it did almost impeccably. The show scored 98% with critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and landed with such an impact that it was even discussed as a topic in schools. With every success, though, comes the infernal question of what comes next?

After being the second-most watched TV series ever on Netflix, surpassing even the mighty Stranger Things, it became apparent that there was an interest in continuing the series in some way, and the obvious way would be as an anthology series. In April, it was revealed that Netflix and Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment, had started early talks to develop a new season of the show.

While Adolescence Season 2 would certainly have a challenge to match its predecessor, it has been suggested that director Philip Barantini will be returning if the show does return, while will be a huge boost. Adolescence delivered its story through a one-take style, with the episodes taking place in a real-time way that put audiences right in the moment. That is something that will continue in a new season, ensuring the same sense of urgency and immersiion as Season 1. Adolescence‘s awards success could be push to get Season 2 green lit sooner rather than later.
