Back in Bridgerton season three, the Netflix series deviated from the order of Julia Quinn’s romance novels. Instead of focusing on Benedict’s story from the book series’ third installment, An Offer From a Gentleman, the show chose to center Colin and Penelope (book four, Romancing Mister Bridgerton). Season four, then, went back to Benedict—but does that mean next season will draw from the fifth novel or go in a different direction?
Netflix has yet to comment; showrunner Jess Brownell has only said that seasons five and six will feature Francesca and Eloise, but did not specify which season is about which Bridgerton sister. Book five, To Sir Phillip, With Love, is about Eloise, and her romance with Sir Phillip Crane. (More here, if you want to be spoiled about what happens in the book.) Book six, When He Was Wicked, follows Francesca, and her love story with her first husband John’s cousin Michael. (He was genderbent to Michaela in the series. More on her book romance, here.)
Here is what we do know so far about Bridgerton season five:
Netflix already renewed Bridgerton for seasons five and six.
Netflix
Will season five follow Eloise (Claudia Jessie) or Francesca (Hannah Dodd)?
In May 2025, the streamer announced, “Dearest Gentle Readers, it is no ordinary day in the ton. Mayfair’s esteemed Bridgerton family will return for two more seasons: Seasons 5 and 6. A rousing celebration is certainly in order.”
Each Bridgerton sibling is going to get their own season. “Everybody’s going to have a main arc every season,” Shonda Rhimes told Town & Country. “There’s going to be one for each one of the Bridgertons. We laid out the story in a way that felt right and necessary for us. And, eventually, every last one of those Bridgertons is going to have a love story.”

Eloise and Hyacinth in season four.
Ahead of the season four premiere, Brownell told T&C: “I definitely though am thinking a lot about future seasons with the siblings, and this was a season in which we really got to platform Hyacinth a lot more than the past seasons. Every season we want to start getting to know those younger siblings more and more. So finding ways to start introducing them and getting them closer to the action is a big priority for me.”
Here’s what else we know:
The season is “super romantic.”
While Brownell kept mum on any details, she did tease, “Every season brings a new tone to the show and I think season five is a super romantic one, so I’m excited about it.”
Season five may not premiere until 2028.
Netflix
Francesca (Dodd) and Michaela (Masali Baduza) in a scene from season four.
There has historically been a two year gap between seasons, but there’s a chance the show could return sooner. “I would say with Season 5, we’re on track — all things [considered], if everything goes to plan — we’re on track to either meet or exceed the year-and-a-half timeline,” showrunner Jess Brownell told Bustle.
