The 10-part Netflix series has been compared to Grey’s Anatomy and The Pitt on HBO but has received scathing reviews
Netflix’s Adolescence fans should tune into this equally nerve-wracking drama that’s quickly climbing the streaming service’s charts.
Currently, it holds the fourth spot on the platform’s top 10, trailing behind the Stephen Graham-led drama at number two, Love on the Spectrum’s new season at number three, and the serial killer documentary Gone Girls holding the top spot. There’s a high chance this new series could climb even higher as viewers are completely engrossed in the 10-part drama so far. Starring Willa Fitzgerald, who is best known for her role as Roscoe Conklin in Prime Video’s Reacher’s first season alongside Alan Ritchson, Pulse is the latest medical drama gripping audiences.
Fitzgerald stars as Danielle ‘Danny’ Simms, a third-year medical resident working in a demanding emergency room at a Miami hospital.
The job of Danny and her colleagues becomes even more challenging when they face a horrifying natural disaster, forcing the hospital into lockdown.

Netflix has been churning out many hit shows as of late
In addition to the intense action, there’s plenty of juicy drama to dive into as Danny’s budding romance with fellow resident Xander Phillips (played by Colin Woodell) gets hearts racing just as much as the ER thrills.
Despite its familiar premise, reminiscent of popular medical dramas like Grey’s Anatomy and rivaling HBO’s acclaimed new series The Pitt, and its strong chart position, the reviews for Pulse have been less than stellar.
FandomWire was utterly enthralled by the show, describing it as “heart-pounding and insanely addictive” and noting that it “has the perfect blend of personal storylines while incorporating fast-paced, high-stakes medical drama reminiscent of NBC’s classic ER”. Yet, they conceded that “the series does miss some deeper emotional moments when it comes to their professional jobs.”
On the flip side, Decider didn’t hold back, stating: “Pulse is one of the most generic medical dramas we’ve seen in some time, with characters who aren’t compelling and medical situations that are eye-rolling to watch.”
A scathing one-star Google review didn’t mince words about the Netflix series, saying: “Wow, where do I start with this absolute mess?” The reviewer blasted the show as “This show is a seriously pathetic excuse of a medical drama. The scenes are patchy with no real direction. The characters lack chemistry. The so-called medical emergencies are non-existent.”

scenes, lackluster character dynamics, and underwhelming medical emergencies.
They wrapped up their critique with a damning verdict: “Worst medical drama I have ever watched. Storylines are nonsensical. Don’t waste your time watching.”
So, will Pulse get your pulse racing, or is this one medical drama you’ll be skipping?
