Anthony Joshua major update as officials release cause of crash suspicion

New details have emerged regarding the fatal car crash that injured Anthony Joshua. The Federal Road Safety Corps in Nigeria has revealed that the Lexus Jeep involved in the accident was travelling “beyond the legally prescribed speed limit”. The tragic incident took place on a Monday morning, resulting in two fatalities. Nigerian road safety officials confirmed that five adult males, including Joshua, were involved in the collision.
In a statement, the Federal Road Safety Corps said: “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) wishes to confirm a fatal road traffic crash that occurred today Monday, 29 December 2025, along the LagosâIbadan Expressway around the Sinoma area near Sagamu, Ogun State, involving a Lexus Jeep conveying world-renowned boxer, Anthony Joshua, and a stationary truck.
“Preliminary reports from the Ogun Sector Command indicate that the crash occurred at about 1200HRS and was promptly reported to the Corps. FRSC operatives arrived at the scene within three (3) minutes of notification, enabling swift rescue operations.
“The incident involved two vehicles: a black Lexus Jeep with registration number KRD 850 HN (private) and a stationary red commercial Sinotruck with unknown registration number. A total of five adult males were involved in the crash.
“Two persons sadly lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries.
“The injured victim was evacuated for medical attention, while the remains of the deceased were conveyed to Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu.
“The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD) was duly notified for further investigation and necessary documentation.

“To this end, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed on behalf of the entire Management and staff of the Federal Road Safety Corps extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured victim, Anthony Joshua a speedy recovery.”
A relative of the 36-year-old, who wished to remain anonymous, spoke to the BBC. “We are hoping for his speedy recovery and also the people who passed away – I pray for the departed to rest in peace,” the relative expressed.
It was confirmed that Joshua was en route from Lagos to his family home. They added: “He’s normally coming around for the new year. We haven’t seen him so we were expecting him.”
Joshua, fresh off his victory over influencer Jake Paul in Miami, was gearing up for an eventful 2026 after spending the final days of this year in Nigeria.
Earlier this month, he took to Instagram to express his gratitude: “A massive shoutout to the 33 million of you who tuned in to support me, Jake, and everyone on the undercard, and thank you to those who prayed for me during fight week.
