Sweet Magnolias Season 4 Recap: What Happened Last in Sweet Magnolias?

Season 4 of Sweet Magnolias kicked off with a wedding! With the help of Maddie’s kids Ty (Carson Rowland), Kyle (Logan Allen), and Katie (Ella Grace Helton), she and Cal (Justin Bruening) surprised the guests at their Halloween party — including Helen and Dana Sue — with a not-so-spooky ceremony.

Smith). Given the circumstances, Maddie and her children’s feelings surrounding the Bill’s death were complicated, and were only made more confusing with Bill’s mother Bonnie’s (Judith Ivey) arrival in Serenity to share the news and plan the funeral. Plus, she wasn’t alone: Bonnie had the help of Kathy (Wynn Everett), Ronnie’s (Brandon Quinn) sister who’s had a controversial record with the Magnolias and the rest of Serenity.

After the town endures a hurricane, Serenity unites to provide as many relief efforts as possible. However, the storm proves to be essential for Erik (Dion Johnstone) and Helen’s relationship, with the former rescuing the latter after a tree falls on her car as she attempts to make it to Sullivan’s and Friends to ride out the storm with their friends. They share a romantic moment in the rain, and realize they belong together.

How Did Sweet Magnolias Season 4 End?

Sweet Magnolias Season 4, Episode 10, “Don’t Be Afraid,” is set at Christmastime, with Serenity preparing for the town’s Winter Festival. Maddie is faced with the choice to move to New York City for a marketing job at an indie publishing house. Luckily, her kids, Cal, and her mother Paula (Caroline Lagerfelt) rally around her and convince her to take the job.

The town is still moving and grooving on developments and growth, per usual. Peggy and Helen recruit Peggy’s assistant Henrietta (Greta Glenn) to take over the latter’s position at the Mayor’s office. Meanwhile through their foundation’s funds, the Magnolias help finance a vehicle for Noreen and Dr. Howie’s (Shawn Passwaters) new mobile clinic, an idea the two hatched during their efforts to help people recover following the hurricane.

Annie (Anneliese Judge) gets a surprise early visit from Ty, who’s returning from tour. However, they have both have big news to drop on the other: Ty wants to accept an offer to tour in Europe, while Annie has to break the news that she was accepted into her dream school, Monterey Institute of the Arts.

On a more positive note, Kyle and Lily (Artemis) have an honest conversation about how they show affection to each other, and Isaac makes things official with Michael (Kyle Findley) at the Winter Festival. And, you might be hearing jingle bells, but actually, it’s wedding bells —— or rather, engagement bells — for Helen and Erik! Erik invites Helen’s mother Bev (Janet Hubert) to stay with them, and of course, help with his intimate surprise proposal at their home. In a moment that can only be described as a divine coincidence, a pregnant Pastor June (Tracey Bonner) must leave midway through Christmas Eve mass amid contractions.

Paula’s special friend Jimmy Sinclair (Jon Briddell) runs an idea by Ronnie, who’s been interested in launching e-bike tours in Serenity with Jeremy (Chase Anderson). He offers up the help of his child, who he says has an interest in ecotourism, and says he will set up a meeting for them in the new year. This only bolsters Ronnie and Dana Sue’s goal, which is to insure everyone in their live’s dreams can come true.

While Ty initially insists that he and Annie “will make it work,” the two have it out after Ty requests Annie put her dream of school on hold and “defer” to jet off to Europe with him for his tour.

Did that leave you on the edge of your seat? Not to worry! Sweet Magnolias Season 5 premieres on Netflix on Thursday, June 11.

Seasons 1-4 of Sweet Magnolias are streaming on Netflix.
