Rihanna and A$AP Rocky did not come up with their youngest son’s name all on their own.
Pharrell Williams had suggested they name their second child Riot Rose Mayers, now 18 months, the “Diamonds” singer has revealed. Pharrell and Rocky had collaborated on the 2023 track “RIOT (Rowdy Pipe’n).”
“He gave us this name thinking it was going to be a girl,” Rihanna told Harper’s Bazaar in an interview published Feb. 22, “because he had seen something online.”
The “Work” singer said Pharrell “is very deep,” adding, “He’s not surface. He will never say anything and just leave it there with a full stop. He will have the entire history: the energy, the time, the month that it is.”
Rihanna—who famously revealed her pregnancy with Riot while performing in the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show—also shared insight into the personality of her and Rocky’s second son.
“Riot, he’s just hilarious,” she said. “When he wakes up, he starts to squeal, scream. Not in a crying way. He just wants to sing. And I’m like, ‘Okay, here we go!’ He’s my alarm in the morning! He’s not taking no for an answer from anyone.”
Rihanna and Rocky (real name Rakim Mayers) are also parents of son RZA Athelston Mayers, 2, whose mom describes as a “empath.”
“He’s so magical,” she continued. “He loves music. He loves melody. He loves books. He loves water. Bath time, swimming, pool, beach, anything.”
RZA who is named after the Wu-Tang Clan member of the same name. The rapper, whose real name is Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, told CNN it is “a great honor to know that there’s another generation that’s not even of my own household that feels the strength and the inspiration of that name.”
“RZA is only a name, it’s a title,” he continued. “So it’s an honor and I salute her and A$AP and their family. All the blessings in the world from me.”

Meanwhile, Rihanna has signaled that she wants to expand her family with Rocky. “I’m batting at 75 percent for a boy next time,” she exclusively told E! News’ Justin Sylvester at the FENTY x PUMA Creeper Phatty Launch Party in December 2023. “So, we’ll just keep our fingers crossed.”

Last June, the Grammy winner joked to Sylvester that she would “just cry out of pure anxiety for one day and then I think I’ll just get over it the next” if she learned she was pregnant again.
She added, “I would just be scared.”
