Affairs are nothing new within the royal family — as King Charles and Princess Diana buffs are well aware — but now, a new biography is making a serious claim about Prince Andrew allegedly stepping out on his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
In an excerpt from Andrew Lownie‘s Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, published by the Daily Mail, the author claims that Prince Andrew’s driver said that the disgraced Duke of York slept with “more than a dozen women before their first anniversary.”
The prince — Charles’ brother and Queen Elizabeth II‘s third child — and Ferguson wed in 1986, soon welcoming daughters PrincessBeatrice and PrincessEugenie.
“Sarah discovered Andrew wasn’t coming home on some of his leave. He was going elsewhere – and this just drove her crazy,” a source alleged, Lownie wrote, referring to Andrew’s time in the British Navy. “She didn’t like the fact she was a shore widow, and to discover she was shore-widowed intentionally really hurt.”
Ferguson, meanwhile, had her own affairs in their marriage in the late ’80s and ’90s, the biography alleges.
Parade has reached out to Prince Andrew’s rep for comment.
Despite their tumultuous relationship and later split — Andrew and the Duchess of York divorced in 1996 after 10 years of marriage — the exes remain amicable, and were even spotted together on Sunday, August 3, amid these new claims.
In response to other claims in Entitled — specifically, the allegation that Prince Harry once punched his uncle Andrew, who allegedly made an unkind remark about Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle — a rep for the Duke of Sussex vehemently shut down such reports.
“I can confirm neither of those things are true. Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight, nor did Prince Andrew ever make those comments about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry,” the spokesperson told People earlier this week. “Such are the gross inaccuracies, damaging and defamatory remarks made in the Daily Mail’s story, I can confirm a legal letter from Prince Harry’s counsel has been sent to the Mail.”
