The Season 1 finale of Ransom Canyon, April Blair’s new Netflix drama inspired by Jodi Thomas’ romantic Western series, ends with a whole lot of loose ends in need of tying. But have fans seen the last of Staten (Josh Duhamel), Quinn (Minka Kelly), Yancy (Jack Schumacher), and the crew? Or will Ransom Canyon return for Season 2?
Ransom Canyon‘s Season 1 finale, titled, “Maybe It’s Time Yancy Grey Dies Too,” revealed if Staten and Quinn stay together, if Davis (Eoin Macken) and Sam (Brett Cullen) take control of Cap’s land, if Yancy and Ellie (Marianly Tejada) get their happy ending, if Lauren (Lizzy Greene) and Lucas (Garrett Wareing) recover from their setbacks, and if Dan (Philip Winchester) lets Kit (Casey W. Johnson) take the fall for Randall’s (Hubert Smielecki) death.
The episode delivered makeups, breakups, unexpected moves, and a major bombshell that will have fans eagerly awaiting a Season 2. So has Netflix renewed its new series for a sophomore season?
Will there be a Ransom Canyon Season 2 on Netflix? Has the streamer renewed or canceled the medical drama? How did Ransom Canyon Season 1 end? What could Ransom Canyon Season 2 look like? And how many books are in Thomas’ series? We’ve got answers!
Here’s what we know about the future of the Netflix series — including thoughts from Schumacher himself.
Will There Be A Ransom Canyon Season 2 On Netflix? Jack Schumacher Weighs In
As of Ransom Canyon‘s premiere date, April 17, Netflix had yet to officially renew the series for a second season, but that doesn’t mean a renewal is out of the question. It’s not uncommon for networks and streamers to wait a while after a season — especially of a new show — has premiered to announce a renewal, so Netflix will likely want to see how well the series performs.
Ransom Canyon‘s Season 1 finale wrapped in a way that could serve as a series finale if need be, but with so many cliffhangers and unfinished storylines, there’s lots more story to tell — especially considering the fact that there are more books in Jodi Thomas’ Ransom Canyon series.

The series received early comparisons to Virgin River and Yellowstone, and as fans of the former know, Virgin River is super successful for Netflix and about to kick off Season 7, which hopefully bodes well for Ransom Canyon‘s fate. During an interview with Decider, Ransom Canyon star Jack Schumacher said, “I 100% want to do this for many, many more years. I’m so grateful to get to be a part of this.” So the cast seem on board for more!
How Many Books Are In Jodi Thomas’ Ransom Canyon Series?
There are currently eight main books in Jodi Thomas’ Ransom Canyon series, so if the show performs well, there’s a good chance it will get renewed for more. Need more Ransom Canyon and want to get reading? Here’s a rundown of the book series:
Ransom Canyon
Rustler’s Moon
Lone Heart Pass
Sunrise Crossing

Ransom Canyon Ending Explained: What Will Ransom Canyon Season 2 Be About?
If you’re looking for a full Ransom Canyon Season 1 finale recap, Decider’s got you covered. But for the purposes of major cliffhangers, here’s what you need to remember when thinking about a Season 2.
Quinn and Staten called it quits, and since AWP threatened legal action against Quinn if she didn’t return their early $80,000 investment in Gracie’s Dance Hall, she took the six-month New York Philharmonic gig and planned to send the money she made to her new business partner, Ellie. Unbeknownst to Staten, the bar fight between him and Davis that led to his fight with Quinn was all part of Davis and his father’s plan to prove that Staten is unfit to be the sole trustee of the Double K ranch. So if Season 2 is green lit, Staten will likely have one heck of a fight for his land on his hands.
In the finale, Dan took Lauren’s advice, arrested her mom for her role in Randall’s death, and let Kit go free. Lucas — who’s back together with Lauren — was overjoyed to have his brother back, but with acceptance letters from Princeton, Columbia, and more, he still has a college decision hanging over his head.
The major cliffhanger in Season 1 involved Yancy and Ellie. Following Cap’s memorial, Yancy took Ellie to a chapel, revealed his plans to run the ranch until he dies, and — wait for it — asked her to MARRY HIM! That very same night! He told her Ruth gave him the ring and they were in her and Cap’s spot. But before he could finish his adorable spiel, Ellie called his proposal “insane” and said she wanted to know the man she marries. Yancy assured her she knew everything she needed to — the good and bad. Ellie headed to her shift at Gracie’s, but he promised to wait for her and pay a priest by the hour in hopes she would return.

Yancy lit the chapel with candles, brought his book of poetry, and asked the photo strip of his parents to “Wish me luck.” So did it work? Back at Gracie’s, Ellie came to her decision and told her ex Kai (Justin Johnson Cortez), still suspicious of Yancy, she planned to marry him. With wedding dress in hand, Ellie was about to meet her future groom until a mystery woman stopped her and said, “Excuse me, do you happen to know Yancy Grey? I’m looking for him. I’m his wife.” WHAT?! Needless to say, Ellie stood Yancy up at the altar, and they didn’t resolve anything before the season’s end. So that’s a Season 2 storyline for sure.
Ultimately, we’ll have to wait and see what Ransom Canyon‘s writers have in store (and how closely they’re following Thomas’ text) should the series get renewed. Stay tuned for updates, and fingers crossed we haven’t seen the last of Ransom Canyon’s crew.
