The ‘Transformers’ star opens up about co-parenting with the Black Eyed Peas singer, admitting he’s a ‘work in progress.’
In a recent sitdown with Parade, Josh Duhamel got candid about the life he has built for himself up to this point. And that includes his current relationship with his ex-wife, Black Eyes Peas singer Fergie.
The musician, whose real name is Stacy Ann Ferguson, married the Ransom Canyon actor in 2009. The two ended up separating in 2017, and got officially divorced two years later. But the two are still in each other’s lives as they co-parent their 11-year-old son, Axl Jack.
“Thankfully, we still have a really good relationship,” the Transformers star tells Parade. “We co-parent him. There’s very little conflict there. Obviously, we have different ways of going about it. But she lets me parent. She trusts that I’ve got his best interest and I’m going to do a good job. And I do the same for her.”
In 2022, Duhamel married former Miss World America Audra Mari, bonding over both growing up in North Dakota. The two have a son, Shepard, who is just over a year old. And the actor admits he has brought lessons from his previous marriage into his current one.
“I have learned from any mistakes I’ve made in the past,” he says. “I’m a work in progress, man. I’ve got plenty of things I need to work on, too. But yes, I’m better off now than I was the first time around.”
Duhamel himself is also getting his hands on a literal work in progress: A remote cabin he’s been building out in the middle of Minnesota. And the actor relishes the “off-the-grid” lifestyle, allowing him and his family to focus on making memories and less about hectic daily and weekly schedules.
“It really got me back in touch,” he said about their lifestyle. “There’s something about it that fulfills the soul in a lot of ways.”
