Jack Osbourne has spoken publicly for the first time since the passing of his father, Black Sabbath icon Ozzy Osbourne.
Osbourne passed away, aged 76, at their family home in Buckinghamshire. He was later buried by a lake on the sprawling property, as requested, at a private service, attended by friends and family, on July 31st.
The day before the service, the Osbourne family felt the love from Ozzy’s fans, who lined the streets of Birmingham in their droves, to honour him as his hearse drove through the city centre before making its way to Black Sabbath Bridge on Broad Street.
Jack appeared visibly emotional as he was serenaded by chants of “Thank you, Ozzy” while paying his respects to the shrine that fans have created for his father in Birmingham.
Now, he’s shared an emotional tribute to his dad on Instagram, writing, “I haven’t really wanted to post anything since the passing of my father. My heart has hurt too much. I’m gonna keep this short because he certainly hated long rambling speeches. He was so many things to so many people, but I was so lucky and blessed to be apart of a very small group that got to call him ‘Dad’.”
Jack continued: “My heart is full of so much sadness and sorrow, but also so much love and gratitude. I got 14,501 days with that man and I know that is such a blessing. I think this quote best describes my father.”
He then quoted Hunter S Thompson, who once said, “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body… but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, ‘Wow! What a ride!’”
Jack concluded by referencing the above quote, and writing, “That was my dad. He lived and he lived his life fully. I love you dad.”
Earlier this week, his daughter, Kelly Osbourne, reflected on the outpouring of love she has received since Ozzy died in a social media post on August 4th: “The love, support, and beautiful messages I’ve received from so many of you have truly helped carry me through the hardest moment of my life. Every kind word, every shared memory, every bit of compassion has meant more than I can ever explain.”
Their sibling, Aimée Osbourne, recently submitted Ozzy’s death certificate in London, which confirmed he passed away following a cardiac arrest. She also listed her father’s occupation as “songwriter, performer and rock legend.”
