NEED TO KNOW
Netflix’s British political thriller Hostage premiered on Aug. 21
While it is billed as a limited series, the creator has teased that he “would love to tell more of this story”
Hostage stars Suranne Jones as U.K. Prime Minister Abigail Dalton, and Julie Delpy as French President Vivienne Toussaint
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Netflix’s Hostage!
Will the Dalton drama continue at 10 Downing Street?
Hostage, the new Netflix limited series, has kept viewers guessing over the course of its five episodes. The political thriller follows U.K. Prime Minister Abigail Dalton (Suranne Jones) as she becomes embroiled in an international crisis, when her husband, Dr. Alex Anderson (Ashley Thomas), is kidnapped, and she finds an unlikely ally in French President Vivienne Toussaint (Julie Delpy).
“[There are] so many little twists and turns. I think it’s just a brilliant, very fun, on-the-edge-of-your-seat whodunit,” Jones told Tudum in August 2025. “You keep thinking it’s one person and it’s not; it’s the next, it’s the next.”
At the end of Hostage, Dalton is reunited with Alex and their daughter, Sylvie Jane Anderson (Isobel Akuwudike), and the series closes with the prime minister calling a surprise general election.
“She ends the show almost where she started; imagine the good you could do if you allowed yourself to be truly who you are in 10 Downing Street,” series creator Matt Charman told Tudum.
The central kidnapping plot might have been resolved, but it seems there is more story left to tell as Dalton’s political future remains uncertain.
So will Hostage return for a season 2? Here’s what to know about what’s next for the Netflix political drama.

Hostage is billed as a limited series, so there isn’t information yet about whether Netflix is considering continuing it with a season 2.
While the show’s future is currently up in the air, the political thriller has been popular with viewers since it dropped on Aug. 21. As of this writing, Hostage is sitting at the No. 2 spot on Netflix’s Top TV Shows in the U.S. chart.

When asked about the possibility of Hostage season 2, Charman told Radio Times that he “would love to tell more of this story” if given the chance.
“Partly because I love writing for Suranne,” he continued. “But I also think there’s something really exciting about who she might go up against next.”
Charman also teased that he would like to “explore further” the word “hostage” and what it means to be “under someone else’s control.”
Which cast members could return for Hostage season 2?

Although a second season of Hostage has yet to be officially ordered, if the series does return, it would most likely include its star, Jones, as Dalton.
While teasing more Hostage, Charman expressed his desire to collaborate with Jones again. “I love working with Suranne, I’d do anything with her,” he told Radio Times. “For me, that would be fun.”
Dalton’s husband and daughter, played by Thomas and Akuwudike, respectively, survive the events of Hostage, so they would most likely come back if Dalton’s story continues.
One actor who probably won’t appear in a second season is Delpy, since her character, President Toussaint, was killed in the penultimate episode.
