TV personality Stephen Mulhern was dining out shortly after an operation when he reportedly ‘reacted badly’ to a few drinks.
An ambulance was called by concerned staff for the 47-year-old – who also recently lost his father – after he fell unwell and he was taken by paramedics to nearby Frimley Park hospital in Camberley, Surrey on Wednesday at 8pm.
A statement to Metro read: ‘Stephen has had an incredibly tough time over the past few weeks. His beloved father recently passed away which has hit him hard and has been understandably very stressful.
‘In addition he had a procedure which took place yesterday (Wednesday). Following the anaesthetic that was administered, he had a few drinks which made him unwell and he was taken in to hospital as a precaution.
‘He is now back home recovering.’
A source further told The Sun: ‘He took himself off for a quiet, solo dinner that evening, had a few drinks and just reacted incredibly badly. He’s only human, and his dad’s death has hit him hard.’

According to the insider, Mulhern is now recovering at home and ‘is mortified that he had such an awful — and public — reaction to the anaesthetic.’
The You Bet! co-host, alongside Holly Willoughby, is reportedly being supported by ITV and his friends as he rests and recuperates.
The Dancing On Ice presenter made headlines earlier this year after he was spotted holding hands with fellow ITV star Josie Gibson, prompting romance rumours.
The pair were filming Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway at the time but quickly both shot down the speculation.
‘I’m in love with Stephen Mulhern. There you go. But story of my life, I don’t think he loves me,’ Gibson told MailOnline.
Meanwhile, Mulhern told This Morning: ‘Listen she didn’t turn up to rehearsals and I held her hand and I showed her where to stand. That is it.’
Now all of his focus is on filming the rebooted ITV game show with Willoughby.

The former This Morning presenter recently said about Mulhern: ‘It’s lovely working with Stephen. We started working together when I was in my 20s and have known each other for a very long time.
‘There were lots of fun moments when filming this show together, we couldn’t help but play along and compete with each other,’ per Border Counties Advertiser.
Mulhern echoed: ‘Holly and I love working together and we had so much fun on the show.’
You Bet!, which first aired back in the 80s, will return to screens next month.
The premise sees a panel of celebrities and the studio audience predict if each challenger can complete the extraordinary challenge with which they are faced.
